Jane
Reviews

I love Jane Eyre so I was super excited to try this graphic novel, even though I'm not really into graphic novels. This is an adaptation of Jane Eyre in a modern setting. The artwork is is beautiful in this graphic novel; I really loved that part of it. However, I wasn't crazy about the characters and I feel like they didn't truly depict the characteristics of the original characters. I didn't hate it but I also didn't love it either. This was just an okay read for me.

"'When you lose someone you love, a light goes out. You learn to find your way without it. But it's cold and it's dark' I knew how he felt. I'd had my fair share of loss. And for a moment we had found a different kind of light'" 3.5 stars. The artwork in this was gorgeous and I loved the overall aesthetic of this. The romance was very .... no thank you. I've never read Jane Eyre so I'm not sure if this was extremely accurate to the book but I'm interested in picking that up now tbh!!

I think I liked this one more than most because I have never read the original Jane Eyre. This retelling reads like a bit of an overblown teen thriller, and I'm down with that. Plus the art is quite captivating. The book is more than a little ridiculous, but who doesn't like a little soap opera in their lives? (I bet you anything this is getting a movie treatment)

Okay admittedly I haven’t read Jane Eyre... I know, I know. I actually didn’t realize what this was when I grabbed it from my library, I just thought the art looked cute. I know bad reason to read a book, so sue me. I did love the artwork of this but that’s it. All the characters were flat, and Mr. Rochester didn’t have an attractive personality to me at all. Also nothing was explained in this, but I’ll chalk that up to you are supposed to have read Jane Eye in order to understand this. My bad, but personally I do feel that makes it a weak retelling. I’m happy to see from other reviews that those who have read Jane Eyre didn’t seem to care for this much either so that gives me hope that I will still enjoy that classic when I get to it.

so i believe this is suppose to be a retelling or re imagining of Jane Eyre which I have not read so I feel like thats why I did not enjoy this. It felt like it was too dramatic and too unexplained. She fell in love with the man in this story way too fast even though he was mean and kept things from her and talked to her rudely and i just kept finding myself rolling my eyes. i just thought this was corny but also since I've never read Jane Eyre I don't know if I would have felt differently if I had.

Great adaptations, in my opinion, should stand on their own, whether you recognize the original story in them immediately or not. Sure, you can name your characters Rom and Julie, but by Act II, if I’m bored with the story, you have screwed something up. I have always hated Jane Eyre. I might not have picked up this book had I realized it was an adaptation. But until someone used her first AND last name together, I hadn’t noticed. The name Rochester seemed VERY familiar, but that was it. This actually, I think, might help me find some enjoyment in Jane Eyre if I ever decide to reread it. Beautifully illustrated and concise.

I didn’t *love* this? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
