An Imperfect Heart

An Imperfect Heart

Amie Knight2018
The heart is exquisite. You'll never hear anyone wax poetic over an organ quite like they do the heart. When you're lost in the world? Follow your heart. When your love for someone is unwavering, unparalleled and unprecedented? You give them your heart. As a lead pediatric cardiac surgeon, I knew better than anyone that the heart is equally as powerful as it is delicate. The heart giveth just as easily as it taketh away. And until the day Kelly Potter darkened my doorway that was all just part of the job. She rolled in like a slow evening storm, fierce and beautiful, fighting for the life of her unborn child. It should have been business as usual. I was a doctor. Her child the patient. But Kelly was more. She was the one who got away. I wouldn't make the same mistake twice. It didn't matter what the rules were. For once, I was listening to my heart.

Amie Knight did it again. She made me love her characters and want them to just love. I loved that we got a little glimpse of Miranda and Ainsley. Kelly didn't ever plan on being a mom, she wanted to become famous in her band and tour the world. Things turned out different than planned when she found out she was pregnant. Unfortunately, her daughter has a heart problem and will need help from the start if she wants a chance to survive. The last thing she expected was that the doctor that could save her daughters life, would be the guy she had a one night stand with ten years ago. Anthony was a jerk after that night, while she actually thought something could've happened. I love that every once in awhile we get a chapter ten years ago. The night Kelly and Anthony spent together was mentioned in the other books, but what happened that night wasn't something I had read about yet. I think out of all three books this one is my favorite and made me feel the most. I was Team Hope all the way. Even though Kelly never planned on being a mother, she was so strong and wanted to do everything right for her daughter. Even when she was really scared. Anthony actually really felt something for Kelly, but it scared him. Seeing Kelly again, makes him think of that night. Only will the feeling that start to come to the surface interfere with him being able to help her daughter. Once again, we get the flirting and romantic moments, but also some humor. And even some emotional ones. I can't imagine what it must feel like knowing that your baby has something wrong that you can't fix. Even though this is a romance and Amie writes amazing male characters that go on the bookboyfriend list, her stories have a realistic feel to them. I hope we get many more books from this author.
