Welp... This was rough. I feel like this book had a really good idea, but the author didn't really know where he was going with it. The first half of the book, which was mostly set up, went by quickly. I was invested (for the most part) in the characters, but then there was a time jump. It felt like the narrating voices were different than the first half, and it was just all off. There was some suspense, but it didn't go on long enough or have enough emphasis put on it for me to be creeped out. I was mostly just confused. I hoped that at the end all would make sense, and while it did technically all "make sense", it was not satisfying. I'm not sure what the point of the entire book was.
Overall, I felt disappointed, and I think it was largely because this was passed off as some sort of dark comedy or dystopian episode of the Office. It was not this at all. It was a group of people who happened to be temps who had to survive the apocalypse. I didn't find any parts amusing, let alone funny. As someone who was looking forward to the dark comedy advertised, my expectations were not met.
I highly do not recommend. The ending is frustrating and the middle disappointing, making the beginning nothing more than fool's gold.
