Very exciting read with likeable characters. Makes maths and science cool. Reaching Armageddon on Earth a mismatch of expert and eccentric scientists and engineers have to come up with an inter planetary solution. Who do they call on.. a disgraced science teacher who’s hypothesis for extraterrestrial life is so extraordinary that he’s been black listed by the academic community. His wild theories might be just what’s needed. Just like that a mission to save Earth is funded and ratified by every country on Earth. 
Queue an exciting space travel .. find a solution adventure.. with more than a few surprises along the way. At no point do you feel you need the suspension of disbelief.. the science and engineering talk along the way totally takes you in and makes it realistic. It was so exciting in parts that I had to skip ahead a page and then go back. 5 stars indeed. How I wish Andy Weir was a teacher. We’d have no problem with kids taking up STEM.

I went into this one completely blind based on a friends recommendation and I am so happy I did. 
All I knew is what the term 'Hail Mary' meant and that the cover art had some guy floating alone in space, probably in a bit of a pickle. 

I don't read a ton of sci-fi, its not my go to genre. I found this fun and engaging, despite the MC getting hammered with problem after problem after problem. It's got enough personality and humor to keep it from sounding clinical and the way it's written is extremely approachable.

I had tears in my eyes just before the end. They could have been tears of laughter, because the book was not only very exciting and well written, no, it was also very funny again and again. But in fact I had tears in my eyes because the fate of the main character was moving in a certain direction that I did not like. Our "hero", Ryland Grace, didn't like that outcome either. But then again, it still turned out differently than expected. And that's how it was for the whole book, actually. It was peppered with minor and major twists and turns that kept me involved at all times. The humor was great and the main character was just perfectly written. Then there was this fantastic space adventure about the fate of mankind, I fevered every second. Not to forget the temporally and thematically well interspersed flashbacks with which Ryland found out more about himself and the mission, made this work round and perfect. For me, an absolute highlight that I will gladly read again.

A great book, especially for science and engineering nerds. Sometimes does get more technical than it needs to and it could have been about 50 pages shorter. But super fun to read!

Another page-turner from Andy Weir. Very enjoyable for a STEM guy like me because the requirement for suspension of disbelief is minimized. I'm wondering if he intended this as a parable for Earth's so far not-so-great response to global warming. I love how he works the math on all the real world problems, like how long it takes to achieve .92 the speed of light if you accelerate at a rate that feels like 1.5 g's to humans. I stayed up late reading this, just as I did for The Martian.

I love good sci-fi novels. This was a decent page turner and good sci-fi novel. Liked it a lot and couldn't put down until it's finished! It was like Martian but in steroids. Good one.

If you read the Martian, then you know what to expect from this book: lots of deadly situations, solved by science, complete with comprehensive explanations of the science behind those solutions. (Well, comprehensive enough that you can understand them, but not so comprehensive that you could implement them yourself.)

A really great read, that was maybe a little slow in getting rolling, but I read the final two-thirds of the book in one sitting.

My only complaint was the narrative plot device he used that made Grace regain his memory in chronological order. It served the story well, but probably didn't serve the science behind memory recovery so well.

It was quite interesting and fun to read.

I really liked the concept and the ideas around it. Also the main character Dr Grace felt relatable and it was easy to be attached to.

Just I think there was too much small talks and random conversations that impacted the pacing for me as a reader.

Some explanations were cool and I was like nice ideas although some of them were too approximative imo.

PS: Rocky is definitely the most most most wholesome alien I have encountered so far !

Mich hat selten ein Buch so sehr gefesselt wie dieses hier. Mit jeder Seite habe ich vergessen dass ich lese, so sehr war ich in die Geschichte investiert. Es gab viele Wendungen, die ich in dieser Art nicht erwartet hatte. Gott, ich hab fast angefangen zu weinen als Rocky plötzlich tot im Cockpit lag 🥲 Umso erfreulicher war es dann, dass er sich doch wieder heilen könnte. Mich hat seine Biologie auch sehr fasziniert – natürlich ist sie abweichend von der der Menschen, aber trotzdem sehr nachvollziehbar, bzw. nachvollziehbar erklärt worden.  Andy Weir ist einfach unglaublich begabt in wissenschaftlicher Fiktion. Aber abgesehen von diesem wissenschaftlichen Aspekten, hatte das Buch auch eine überraschend emotionale Seite, die mir beim Marsianer doch eher gefehlt hat. Deswegen die bessere Wertung; Ich würde fast sagen das ist mein neues Lieblingsbuch 😌

This book rocked my world it was so good the writing the science tho sometimes I didn’t understand what was going on or how they came to that conclusion,  google helped a great deal it became my best friend. The story is empowering it shows how people can do anything if they put their differences aside and try and help one another and ROCKY I LOVE HIM HE MADE THE BOOK he was so sweet and he was willing to do anything for his people and I mean anything!!  this book was amazing and I’m definitely going to buy more books by Mr Andy Weir

Not usually a huge sci-fi fan but this book blew me away and was gripping from start to finish with an amazing plot and characters. You won’t regret getting the audiobook version either.
