This makes the second book not centered around Lestat and personally I am completely okay with it. It is nice to get a look at other characters and seeing how things are progressing within the larger vampiric world. 

 We get another tie in to the Mayfair Witches with one of their descendants being the focus of this story.

 David has asked Merrick if she can bring forth the ghost of Claudia, the forever child vampire made by Lestat and cared for by Louis.

 But it seems the story will center around Merrick and her back story, though I am noticing it goes back and forth throughout. Still a very scenic style of writing. Rice just has a way of pulling a reader into New Orleans.

 A lot of backstory between Merrick and David is being laid out. 

And so Merrick sets out to awaken and bring forth the spirit of Claudia.
