I love this world and characters so much. This was my Harry Potter fr. Happy to have found an audiobook of this with such great performances (complete with the Irish accents too!) So glad to be able to revisit this series again now

I started this series because I found some information about the main character, Artemis Fowl. He is the main reason I love this book. As strange as he is, he reminds me of how I think. No, I’m not a genius, but I am socially awkward, and I plan everything — every move and every word that comes out of my mouth. I could relate to the way his head worked. His character was somewhat different from what I’m used to seeing in literature. I’m incredibly excited about starting the next book!

I loved this book so much that I reread it a week later! I definitely love this series. Artemis is the best!

I loved how Artemis became more appreciative. Very fast and engaging story. Artemis is my new favorite character.

I liked the first book in this series, but I had some trouble with a few plot points and the characters. this time around, however, I enjoyed myself much more. I'm liking the character growth a lot! I'm excited to dig into the third book!

This was one of those books I've been meaning to read since I was a little girl. So many people have told me I should read it, or looked at me in shock when I revealed that I hadn't yet read it. Now, at long last, I can finally say I've finished this book. And, you know what? It was a really fun read! I'm glad I listened to all those people who encouraged me to pick it up.

The characters grated on me a little bit and I had a hard time fully connecting with them, but they were all so developed and unique that it made me invested despite my lack of connection. And all the different species of creatures were so cool: troll, human, leprechaun, dwarf...and so many more. I had a lot of fun reading about these creatures.

And the world - or, worlds - were so interesting. I really enjoyed learning about and exploring the fairy realm. For such a short book, the amount of world building packed in was quite impressive!

Overall, I had a great time reading this book. I wasn't quite as connected to the story as I'd like, but I'm still glad I checked it out. If you're like me and have put off reading this book, I'd recommend giving it a go!

This was my second read through of the sequel to Artemis Fowl and I had actually found that it had been so long that I remembered almost none of it. This may be because it's probably been more than ten years since I last read the book. It also could be that I didn't think it was nearly as funny or interesting as the first book. Upon rereading it, I can definitely say that I liked the book, and I appreciated the character development that Artemis goes through, but I'd only give this one 3.5 stars.

Ultimately, I think the best thing about this book was it broke from this idea that Artemis Fowl, child genius, has no real soft spots. Sure, it's sort of in the first book, but it really comes out in this one. It's the story of a child trying to save his father instead of a child trying to get rich quick by any means necessary. It also does a lot to bond Artemis to these other recurring characters that he's seen.

Additionally, having real bad guys in this book instead of rooting for both sides makes this book a very different beast from the first. Still, it's not necessarily a bad thing - just different. I happened to prefer the first book tho The Arctic Incident, but I still had fun reading this one.

Ultimately, you have to read the first book first or a great deal of the character interaction just will not make any sense at all.

This book was far better than third book in my opinion. I think it deserves the full four stars that I have given it. This book had an excellent plot, good character development, and a direction for the future of the characters in the story. 

My only real complaint is that Opal Koboi, the main villain, treated even her companions that saved her from the mental institution as horribly as all the other villains in the other books. You would think that at least there would be some camaraderie between them.

I like the direction that Holly is going in as a character. I think her decision was a very interesting one given the events of the book, though I think that Julian Root would be horrified with her decision. However I also think that he would be horrified with how the LEP handled the situation in general.

All in all I think this was a great book. You definitely have to read the prequel‘s in order to understand this book. However I think this plot is superior to some of the other ones in the series. I would definitely recommend this book.

Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a brilliant criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn't know what he's about to take on when he kidnaps a fairy - Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. Artemis thinks he's got the fairies just where he wants them; but these fairies are armed and dangerous.

This was my second read-through because it's been a while since my last one. Needless to say, I still really love it.

The entire premise is that a really intelligent child with the brain of Moriarty goes up against the police force of the underground world of fairies. Ridiculous as it sounds, it's a great read. I would highly recommend this to those who enjoy not taking lore 100% seriously and enjoy making something usually viewed as medieval and making it modern and updated. It's a great story. It manages to keep you happily in suspense no matter how much fairy lore you think you know.

I also have to say, as I said while reading this, that this is one of the only child genius protagonists that doesn't drive me up the wall. Sure, he's a little emotionally stunted, but you really do believe he's as smart as the story is showing you he is. I've read too many books where it's the opposite and the author has to constantly remind you that they're a genius. It gets frustrating. But not this one! Artemis is articulate and smart, but he still manages to present as a twelve year old boy with some growing up to do.

My only complaint is that Juliet isn't heavily featured in this book, but neither is she more or less ignored.

I love the troubled relationship between Artemis and his mother, who is quite mad with grief after losing Artemis Senior in a tragic incident involving a Russian missile and a transport ship filled with soda. A little nonsensical, sure, but it works.

This was a nice fun and easy read. I did really enjoy this! It was super easy to follow and it had an intriguing storyline. I really liked the characters in this book as well. There were a lot of different types of characters so each one was interesting to read about. I thibk the world was super interesting and I really enjoyed reading about it. It was definitely a simple read and there wasn’t to much complexity, but I still really enjoyed it!

The concept of this book is fascinating. I love the idea of a 12 year old genius super-villain. In reading the book, I started the last chapter not knowing if Fowl would be victorious or not, which is fantastic. Contrast that with the Harry Potter books where I didn't know exactly HOW Harry would be victorious, but I certainly knew that he would be. The book was a quick read, and had some fun characters.

A good second book in the series. I don't think Fowl had as many opportunities to show his cleverness in this book as he did in the first, so I was a little disappointed. But the characters are still entertaining and worth the read.

I read this book (along with the previous books in the series) to my 11 year old daughter. Almost all the characters were from previous books, and there weren't really too many new concepts presented here. Even though it was more of what we've read before, we enjoyed the ride. After four books by Colfer in a row, we're going to take a break for a while and read something else. Unlike the Harry Potter series we don't seem to feel the urgency to get to the next book in the series. Probably because there isn't any sort of cliff-hanger or on-going antagonist throughout the series. Having said that, the book still delivers a thrilling story.
