"This is the land of great big dogs, you don't love a man here, you eat him!" The foundation of the American dream is built upon the carcassess of those less greedy and vicious.

Powerful. Heartbreaking. Disturbing. An instant favorite, without a doubt. I can't wait to explore more of his marvelous work!

Act one and the middle of Act two went by slow. Then everything started going faster and answers were being said. It wasn’t till the end where I started feeling attached to this play. Act three is where the need to underline phrases began. This play has such an unexpected twist! I figured this play would be boring but no.... . I truly enjoyed this play and want to read it again! Something that intrigued me is “every man has a star. The star of honesty. And you spend your life groping for it, but once it’s out it never lights again. I don’t think he went very far. He probably just wanted to be alone to watch his star go out” p. 74.

Read in one setting. I was surprised by how quickly I was able to blaze through it, but I couldn't put it down. Having read Miller's other works in high school, I had a feeling it would be a good read, but I was reminded of Miller's ability to create such raw emotion in stage dialogue. Naturally, things are always missed when reading plays, so I would love to one day see an adaptation and really feel the full force of the story. Just going off the text alone though, incredibly moving. I felt the deception and fear in the lines before I even knew the end result.

I've been listening to a lot of Arthur Miller plays while working and while I'm not counting them all towards my GR goal or even talking about all of them I just wanted to say that this play is so fantastic and my favorite Miller so far.
