Robin Hobb never fails to astound me. This book was so beautiful, with all of the best possible scenarios.... ahhh... I don't know what I'll do now that this last book has been published!!

short, messy, spoiler-free, and very biased opinion. this is ALL written under my "i love rote with all my heart" gaze.

one of the best books i've ever read, but i don't think i'll ever have the strength to reread it. 
the fitz and the fool trilogy has been an emotional rollercoaster, and for me realm of the elderlings has been a 6-months length journey. i can't believe it's over and i don't have a book to pick up next, it's crazy to think that fitzchivalry farseer's story has come to a definitive end. 

this experience has been incredible and i have felt so many emotions. almost daily, the characters have accompanied me for half a year. in good and extremely bad moments, i had rote to rely on and make my day better. sometimes it was a catharsis, and sometimes i couldn't bear it and had to leave it for a few days, with assassin's fate in particular. now, i don't want to be dramatic. i'm not saying that rote is one of those books whose only purpose is to mess with the reader as much as the author can just because They Can and they want that impact. their only goal is to hurt, and nothing else. that's not rote. rote has made me cry, laugh, get angry and sad, i grieved, i felt satisfied. it has given me so much, it's a story with a heart and soul.

fitz, fool, and nighteyes (special mention to bee as well, but those three are truly the most important to me) are some of the best characters ever written. period. hobb's characterisation has always been great since assassin's apprentice, but in this trilogy she shines. it's no secret that fool has always been my favourite, and even if his character arc in the last three books has been painful and has left me broken inside, it was as wonderful as it was terrible. hobb just KNOWS how to make her characters feel like real people, and has definitely set the bar high.
i think robin hobb has curated my taste. i won't be able to read a fantasy book, from now on, without thinking about this series and making comparisons. 

this is a story that i will keep in my heart forever and that i would love to revisit in the future, no doubt. but getting through assassin's fate again... i love this book. i think it's the best one, maybe because it's the last one or because it was the culmination of other 15 books that came before it, but rereading it... right now, i can't imagine myself doing so. 
 
i love rote, i love it so much. i never thought i would feel this strongly about it. when i read the last word i felt empty and terribly sad. it's over, but the journey has been amazing and i wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

the ending made me cry so badly, but… i think it was perfect. it was an ending worthy of rote. bittersweet but, somehow, it feels right.

Some good dialogue between the characters, but seriously poor overall.

The narrative was feebly constructed, and events seemed to occur mostly as a vehicle for fitting in as many series cameos as possible even though it made little sense for those people to be there half the time. 

Hobb routinely did multiple bait and switches (they're dead! Oh no they're not. Yes they are! Nope, just kidding. For real this time!) to the point of tedium, even apathy. I no longer really cared if they'd died or not at the end. 

The actions weren't thought through. For example, Fitz spends the latter two books convincing Fool to embark on a certain course of action, which they agree on multiple times is the right thing to do, and is set up to be so; this is reversed in the last moment by one line of dialogue from Bee. I almost think Hobb changed her mind last minute. 

So many things were like that. The book feels unfinished, rough second draft stage, perhaps in need of a good edit. As a long term fan who found the original series influential, I was extremely disappointed.

Knowing firsthand the torture the Servants are capable of, The Fool sets out with Fitz and Co. to get her back. When I started this book, I was thinking wow, that's a long book. A few pages in, and I was already wishing it was at least a thousand pages longer. I feel that way every time I read a book by Robin Hobb. She is brilliant! I received a copy of this book from Net Galley.

I can't even explain how wonderful Robin Hobb's writing is. its a great experience the whole series. This book the final journey of Fitz & the Fool was a wonderful ending to this series. However, I think I'll be crying for days!!!!uggghhhhh Still Loved it.
