Reviews

This book has generally reviewed the overall fundamentals of the atomic design (from philosophy to execution by the specific tool - Pattern Lab). However, the author overused "wordy" language to explain the technical aspects, making me uncomfortable reading. The examples given are unsatisfactory as the author mainly focused on the lengthy explanation but forgot to provide clear key takeaways that readers are expected to "remember" after reading it. It's better for skimming to get overview knowledge about the atomic design instead of an academic reference.

If there’s a canon in the emerging field of design systems, then this is one of the founding texts. As software complexity increases, and managing iterations and change becomes the norm, design system thinking offers a method for controlling the madness. Of particular interest is the chapter on adoption and maintenance. Recommended.

I had the chance to read this before transitioning to UX career path and I must say, this book has it all. Since reading this, I have worked as a UX designer, attended UX talks and conferences; and this book gets mentioned everywhere. Industrially recognised best practices for UX designers is what this book is. Helped me navigate through the chaotic mess of design systems and helped me build my first design system documentation. Great read!

What a great book definitely is something that you as designer/UX/front-end developer you must to read. I recommend it.
