Barbarian's Prize Ice Planet Barbarians Book 5

Ruby Dixon2016
It's hard being the most popular girl on the ice planet. The alien men are falling all over themselves to impress me in the hopes that I'll take them to my furs. But they don't know my secrets - none of them do. And they don't realize that behind my smile, I just wish they'd go away. I don't want any of them. I want someone else - someone with a gorgeous blue body, big horns, and the most intense gaze ever. He's the only one that knows the truth. Maybe with him, I can work through my fears of the past....but I'm pretty sure he wants more than just friendship. He wants forever, and I'm not sure I can give it.

These books really never disappoint. You know exactly what you’re getting when you read one and it’s a nice short read to just turn your brain off and enjoy. Classic romance elements set in a sci-fi-esque world that is pretty low stakes. Another good book in the series!

This review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceI received this book for free from Self Purchased in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. *May Contain Spoilers * Barbarian's Prize is the fifth book in the Ice Planet Barbarian's series by Ruby Dixon. I have had such a blast reading these books and Dixon has done such a superb job in the world building and all the mineute details that only build with each book. Now for those who are new to this series, and don't know about these sexy blue barbarian aliens. Our series began when human women were kidnapped by aliens from earth, and they crash landed on a ice planet. They could only survive by having a Khui inserted into them which "resonates" when it finds its mate. They are brought and accepted into this barbarian like culture, where women are scarce and rare. The men go out to hunt and the women take care of the home in the caves. Its winter all year round. And they have been on the planet for over a year and half currently. In this story, our pair of the book is Salukh and Tiffany. Now Tiffany is one of the last two women to not have a mate yet and Tiffany is more than happy about that fact. She so doesn't want to have a mate. Tiffany suffers from trauma, while on the alien ship  that brought them to the ice planet, she was raped and now goes into panic mode anytime a man touches her even casually. And she fears of finding a "mate" and being forced upon again. Tiffany is more than content to keep up with the many chores, and finding a way to grow her crops. She doesn't like the attention that she is getting from the males around her in the southern caves. So she and her friend Josie come up with a plan to keep them occupied with a tournament of sorts to "win her affections". There is our mate, I tell it. See how lovely she is? How fragile? I need to resonate for her. I need to claim her, to protect her. Tee-fah-nee is mine. Resonate. Resonate. Resonate so I may claim her. But my khui is silent, the traitor, as I walk up to her. But while the men are distracted, something new forms in Tiffany, a friendship with one of the aliens...the only one she isn't afraid of. Salukh knows that Tiffany is his mate, and even though his Khui isn't vibrating yet, he knows in his heart that he loves her and that she is his, he just has to prove to her of his devotion. He is full of confidence and respect for Tiffany.  But he wants her to see him and his desire for her. When he learns the truth about her past, and why she is so skittish, he begins to understand. And when she suggests that he helps her by touching each other, he is more than willing. But as they get caught up in the passion they feel for each other, things go topsy turvy when they are caught by the other blue barbarians and Salukh will have to prove himself of his love and devotion to Tiffany. This was such a well written story and probably one of my favorites of the series so far!! I know I know...that is really hard to decide, because I have read some whoppers so far, but this story just sung to me in different ways. First off, you feel the trauma and the emotional turmoil that Tiffany goes through. From her nightmares to her panic attacks, you just ache for her. She can't seem to get over the past like Josie. She never seems to be able to move on from what was done to her. We see the inner workings of her mind, and I really admired Tiffany. She is dedicated, hard working and passionate. I love how driven she is to make this "ice planet" her home and learn everything she can. But she is not perfect, and leads some of the males on in thinking she desired them when she just wanted an escape. So you understand her reasons for the "tournament" and everything but you also see that it could have been done different. But Tiffany is working through the after effects of the rape on the ship, and trying to be so strong. Tiffany has to come to the realization that she is holding back the mating. That the khui won't resonate until she resolves her fear and learns to be compltely open to this new life and not hold herself back. I loved seeing her journey and seeing her overcome her fears. You must accept that there will be things in life that are not good, but they are outweighed by the good things. If there were no bad, we would not appreciate the wonders that life has to offer. There will be fear, but you must not let it win Then we have our darling hero....Salukh. He is so so devoted to Tiffany, so patient and understanding and doesn't want to scare her. He knows that they are mates, even though his Khui is so silent, he has no doubt in his mind or heart that they are meant to be together. But even before he learns of her rape, he knows that there is something dark in her past that is haunting her and doesn't want to scare her like the others. So he becomes her friend first, learning her ways and trying to be her support when she needs it. He is so steady and sure and reliable. I honestly think he might be my favorite hero so far. I love how careful he is of Tiffany, and doesn't push anything that she isn't ready for even when she hurts him unintentionally due to her fears. Even though he is a powerful hunter in the tribe, I would think he is more a beta hero. And boy....we need more of them in romance and Ruby Dixon wrote his character so well. Now I did want to talk about the sexy times in this book and oh man they were so delicious and tender and sensual. I love how open they are with each other, playful and trying new things. They are pretty vital to their relationship, and there aren't many full smexy time scenes, so I recommend reading them because it's these scenes that they really connect. I have to say the horn scene was my favorite...*sigh* this hero knows how to love his women so deliciously. The romance that develops between this pairing that goes from friends to lover is so sweet, poignant and gets your motors running. It's a sensual and romantic read that is guaranteed to have you falling in love with Salukh and Tiffany's journey to each other....A HEARTFELT ALIEN LOVE TALE!! [foogallery id="25891"]

I liked how this story dealt with some tougher topics amongst all the other fun, fluffy parts to it. Tiffany and Sulukh were a fun pair and it also whets the appetite for the next story.

This was cute, I did find myself quickly skimming the second half but this series is so enjoyable and easy to read. I’m excited for the next book but I do think I need a bit of a alien binging break!

I must say I didn’t think these books would cover such serious topic as sexual abuse & im here for it. It was done in a tasteful way and the details were spared so it’s not graphic or dark which I appreciate. I liked Tiffany I want to say I think she was black? From the description of her hair and her having “brown skin” I’m not sure however I’m glad she was of a different ethnic background than the previous humans. She was very broken and fearful in the beginning which is understandable & I felt for her. Salukh ugh I loved him he was so sweet, patient, genuine, thoughtful, sexy & just PERFECT. Honestly he was little too nice & good to her at times it felt like. I’m glad he was the one paired with Tiffany though. Their story was very enjoyable. & yes I’m a very much addicted to these damn books and their HEAS.

Three Stars A brief synopsis: Tiffany is struggling to avoid the males on the ice planet as they pine over her. She isnt ready to resonate because of her previous non-consenting experience My review: I liked this book a lot but I dont like tiffany. She is a very frustrating main character and she seems ungrateful a lot of the time. The plot was sweet though

“You still think I am perfect after all this?” “Nothing will ever change my mind. You are strong simply for trying. You are perfect just as you are.” Tiffany has gone through past trauma during her abduction causing her to have terrifying nightmares and fear of connecting to a mate. Salukh is a gentle kind soul who has fallen in love with her. He is so respectful of her boundaries and she grows to trust him as more than just a friend. Wanting to overcome her fear, she asks Salukh to help her practice intimacy to get more comfortable with it again. This is spicy and so sweet. Salukh is the sweetest thing. Their chemistry is perfect and their love is a slow burn 🔥 Read this if you like ⤵️ 🧊 Paranormal Romance 🧊 Friends To Lovers 🧊 Slow Burn 🔥 Spicy 🌶 🧊 Virgin Hero 🧊 Fated Mates & Breeding Behavior 🧊 “I have nightmares every night, except when I’m with you” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Barbarians Prize by Ruby Dixon

I really enjoyed this one. I absolutely loved the patient dynamic between Salukh and Tiffany. Salukh helped Tiffany heal from her prior sexual abuse. It was really quite beautiful. It was also the longest book in the series so far which was very interesting. I absolutely cannot wait for Josie and Haeden's story next.

These books really are all starting to bleed together in a bad way. It's a lot of the same "will they or won't they?" which is already a trope I don't like very much, and I don't think it's done very well in this book. The next one is supposed to be enemies to lovers, which we all know is a god-tier romance trope, so let's hope that it puts the spark back in this series for me!

Not my favorite. I find Georgie really annoying and so far every one else was great. I'm going to have to add Tiffany to that list. Granted, with everything that happened to her I really thought I would adore her story. However, I found Josie's story more compelling. Can't wait for Josie's story! The Barbarian's are still...
