Ben and Charlotte Hollins' father ran Fordhall Farm from the age of 14 until his death in 2005, along the way inspiring his children with his zeal for organic farming. Shortly after their father’s death, the landlord informed the siblings that they must either raise £800,000 to buy the farm that had been in their family for 700 years, or face eviction. Refusing to go without a fight, the Hollinses set up the Fordhall Community Land Initiative, which allows members of the public to buy a £50 non-profit share in the farm. With an appeal in national newspapers and on television, the community rallied to save a special piece of farming history.
