           The only reason I rated it a three-star is because the book acknowledges the main character's stupidity and the twist at the end was unanticipated. But otherwise, this book is nothing special. 

Like others have pointed out, the author told us that Jessie Hunt was a smart, intuitive woman, but it was never shown. There were very, very few instances in the whole book where she did something and I was like "okay, that was smart". While I didn't like her character much, I could have tolerated the character if the plot was a teeny-weeny bit different. But unfortunately, the plot was cliche as hell, and there were no redeeming qualities about her. 

The plot, on the other hand, reminded me a lot of this other book that I read. While each of them had their differences, some of the things like a psychopathic husband, a red-headed neighbour who was awfully nosy and dumb decisions from someone who was supposed to be smart was all there. I am surprised that a lot of people seem to use this trope in their books. But married lives don't work like that, at least I hope so. 

Another thing that seriously bothers me is how Jessie Hunt is actually an accessory to murder and how she is supposed to work in law enforcement later on. I don't know about you, but it seriously bothers me. If she was so easily manipulated by her husband to not call in the murder, but instead to assist him in disposing of the body, then what is it to say that she won't do that later on? Yes, I know that her doing that was necessary to increase the length of the book and to add in some unnecessary action and drama. But it just felt so stupid to me. 

Definitely not going to continue reading the series. It is definitely not my cup of tea.
