Resurrection and filling gaps after the fact- this is a dangerous project, but one written with great care. Sanderson once again flexes his storytelling muscles with a novella that has no right being written, but does a wonderful job at existing. He keeps proving me wrong at every turn, but I can’t help reading his “told you so’s” one after another.

It’s also a treat to be back with Vin, Elend, and Sazed, limited though it may be.

Unpopular opinion... Mistborn should have ended with the first 3 books really. I don't understand the point of all these stretching out and adding stories here and there. And knowing Sanderson, if any of what happens here has any bearing on future books, he's probably still going to explain it to death in those books still.. And really though was that the secret?? really that was it??
Points for Nostalgia but really though meh. Also seriously (view spoiler)[where did Marsh go to? he just disappeared at the end of book 3 (hide spoiler)] Frankly that was the main reason i picked up this book and i still didn't get my answer.
All in all didn't wow me as much as i expected it to.

three years ago,, i was too lazy to read this novella and i didn’t think it was that important. but hey look at me now, crying over this book and reliving all the trauma. but this time, in kelsier’s perspective <3

i'm still amazed at how this story provides a refreshing point of view of the events already narrated in mistborn. it makes the original trilogy feel whole and provides the definitive closure for characters i adore, and explanations that i thought were needed. at the same time, it connects to and opens up to a separate, bigger picture of the entire universe. i'm excited for the lost metal and the rest of books that are coming out in the future, as they're going to be more cosmere-aware as time progresses.
love it, one of my favourite instalments of the series.

What an incredible addition to the Mistborn series! This is top notch. I was not expecting this at all. wow wow wow wow.

Mistborn: Secret History is a companion story to the original Mistborn trilogy. As such, it contains HUGE SPOILERS for the books Mistborn (The Final Empire), The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages. It also contains very minor spoilers for the book The Bands of Mourning. Mistborn: Secret History builds upon the characterization, events, and worldbuilding of the original trilogy. Reading it without that background will be a confusing process at best. In short, this isn't the place to start your journey into Mistborn (though if you have read the trilogy - but it has been a while - you should be just fine, so long as you remember the characters and the general plot of the books). Saying anything more here risks revealing too much. Even knowledge of this story's existence is, in a way, a spoiler. There's always another secret.

The Mistborn trilogy, and the following Wax & Wayne series, are one of the most elaborate and interesting magic worlds I've ever read about. As a hardcore fan of the world, Secret History shows an alternate take from the end of Book 1 up until the end of Book 3. I appreciate that Sanderson had a bit more in mind than we were able to see in those books, but I didn't feel like this added as much to the world as I was hoping for.

Obviously I can’t say much about this novella, as it contains massive spoilers to the Era 1 trilogy and light spoilers for Era 2. However, what I did want to do here is strongly recommend reading this once you’ve read through the first trilogy, or it and Bands of Mourning. Readers sometimes discount novellas between main installments in series as being unimportant. I know I’ve done exactly that with other series. However, that could not be further from the case here. Secret History is immensely important to the series, and to the Cosmere as a whole. I remembered very little aside from the basic premise, so I’m very glad that I decided to reread this. It was fascinating to see all the myriad ways this story tied into various worlds of the Cosmere, and the insights it gives into the events of Mistborn: Era 1. And the story was much more of an emotional roller coaster than I remembered. Even if you generally skip novellas, don’t skip this one. I promise you, it’s worth your time.

A lot of the plot holes from the original Mistborn trilogy are filled in with super cool details on the way the Cosmere works. 
I thought I would just be getting footnotes of Cosmere history as it related to Mistborn, but instead was pleasantly surprised to find a whole new story from the perspective of one of Sanderson's most intriguing characters. If you don't already know who that is, I'll leave Secret History to reveal it to you.
A must read for fans of Mistborn who have already read the original trilogy.

Read for my 'Acceptable' N.E.W.T in History of Magic 2019 #magicalreadathon. Prompt - Read a fantasy. Career choice - Ministry of Magic, Department of Mysteries Worker.  The original Mistborn Trilogy still brings a smile to my face even after all these years so naturally I was always going to be suspicious because there can be too much of a good thing. I was scared this was going to reveal too much of the behind the scenes goings on relating to The Hero of Ages. Sometimes speculation is better than actually knowing. Secret History did answer some questions that weren't answered and we did see glimpses into the future of loved characters lives but the important thing was that it didn't at all ruin the original trilogy. It was the balanced well, a welcome addition.

Tengo un conflicto con esta historia, y es que aunque me ha parecido súper interesante y me he gozado a tope todo el lore que cuenta a la vez de me ha hecho increíblemente tediosa. Quiero pensar que es por leer algo que ya había leído aunque de otra forma y hasta que no empiezan ha aparecer cosas nuevas tarde medio libro en engancharme del todo. Aún así, recomiendo mucho esta historia pues cuenta bastantes cosas importantes y cosas de lore que si estás muy metido en el Cosmere, te interesarán.
