I love Paulo Coelho’s books but this was a DNF for me. Brida is on the path to become a witch. The problem I have is that you cannot consolidate someone who practices witchcraft and the Bible. They cannot go together. You cannot bring biblical beliefs and practices into witchcraft and vice versa. I tried to keep an open mind but when they kept twisting the Bible for their own beliefs, I could not continue. I was generous with this rating.

I tried to keep an open mind but when they kept twisting the Bible for their own beliefs, I could not continue. I was generous with this rating.

This book was something different to everything I've read before. Such a beautiful story. The way it's written is perfect. The lesson it teaches about love, is so beautiful as well as the ending. Would definitely recommend.

paulo disappointed me for choosing a nonsense story to demonstrate some of his beliefs and ideas i found the plot rather boring and touched some OK ideas he wanted to tell. he has a talent in just one thing his a good writer and have a style but ... sorry no good or even important plots . that's all

Oh, frumoasa mea Brida, ce mi-ai făcut!
Chiar am avut așteptări de la acest autor, fiindu-mi recomandate cărțile lui de foarte mulți oameni, pe tot parcursul liceului: Alchimistul, Veronika se hotărăște să moară, Manuscrisul de la Accra. Și cu toate acestea, am avut o oarecare reținere pentru că mi se părea că nu e genul meu, chiar dacă nu am un anumit "gen". Am făcut rost de "Brida" la un schimb, acum vreun an, atrăgându-mă coperta senină, veselă, îmi dădea o stare de liniște și, desigur, descrierea chiar mă tenta. Dar începând să citesc, trecând vreo cincizeci de pagini, mi s-a părut că citeam ceva ciudat în măsura în care mă așteptam să citesc altceva.

"Brida" spune povestea unei tinere care își dorește să găsească magia din lume, să îi răscolească secretele, dar și să descopere arta iubirii și este inițiată în aceste taine cu ajutorul Maestrului ei, Mag, și o femeie Wicca. Dintre aceste două personaje, ambele păreau să aibă înțelepciunea proprie, unul fiind reprezentatul Soarelui, iar femeia, reprezentanta Lunii. Și chiar îmi plăcea să le citesc vorbele, asta până când o duceau spre partea exagerat de spirituală care mă făcea să mă întreb: "ce tot citesc aici?" 
Nu cred că are cartea vreo vină, ci doar am crezut că va fi altfel, chiar dacă mi s-a părut mai mult că citeam o povestire a unui roman, nu unul în sine.

De obicei, aștept să îmi ofere cartea — de ficțiune — ce vrea, nu caut eu anumite lucruri. Aceasta a fost o excepție și nu credeam că voi da de rugăciuni ale vrăjitoarelor către Fecioara Maria, de "Dumnezeu se regăsește prin cuvinte" și de mesageri ai Brațului Stâng. 

Însă cartea mi s-a părut interesantă, pe alocuri, și chiar am de gând să caut cât de curând despre câteva concepte spirituale pe care le-am întâlnit printre paginile ei.

 "Însă cine se va uita la o floare pe câmp va rămâne cu ea pentru totdeauna. Pentru că ea devine una cu după-amiaza, cu apusul, cu mirosul pământului umed și cu norii de pe cer."

This is the second Paulo Coelho book and just like the Alchemist I really enjoyed it! It was a bit strange to read about how witches respect Christianity and the teachings of the Bible;-)
