When I first received The Escape the cover in itself grabbed my attention. There is so much atmosphere in the dark smokey scene that you almost feel the goosebumps and chills before you even open the pages. 

Right from page one Taylor creates tension within the story. It begins with Jo Blackmore feeling that someone is following her and as the tension and pace build in that first chapter I could feel my own heart begin to race, the panic building as if you can feel that person coming up behind you. Taylor's ability to pull you emotionally into the story from the very first sentence is an extremely incredible talent. 

All Jo Blackmore wants to do is protect her daughter, but that's made a lot more difficult when nobody around her believes the threat that she faces, not even her husband. This book will have you questioning who you can trust. Every time you think you know what's going on it will flip everything on it's head and have your head spinning. 

I felt like I held my breath the entire way through this story - I could not put this book down. So if you decide to do the right thing and pick up a copy be prepared for some late night reading as you won't be able to stop!

It drew me in quickly and made my dog walks longer, which is always a good sign. It did seem a little far fetched in a lot of ways, but the writing was strong and the plot reasonably well thought out. To be fair, I'm probably not in the target demographic, being a mid-40s male, although that's maybe a little unfair. I bought it after hearing an interview with Steve Kavanagh and Luca Veste - Two Crime Writers and a Microphone, episode 27, which I very much recommend. 

If you're going for the Audible version, the narrator is excellent by the way.

A brilliant, gripping storyline, I was hooked from the first chapter, really enjoyed it.

It was a pretty decent read, I think I would have given it a 3 if it wasn't for the fact that I had to stop every five minutes, take a deep breath and reel in my anger. Gosh.
I also thought that the format could have been slightly different to make the plot more impactful. I had a feeling about what was going to happen, but I just feel like I would have felt more if it was slightly different.

Well that was fun! 

A good twisty thriller, plenty of misdirection and whilst some of the story leaps seemed a little far, hang in there for a great payoff.
