3.5⭐️

my first read from miss Catherine and it is extremely heartwarming yet as well heartbreaking. the sheriff was once hated her due to the abduction of his sister, but then learned everything about her and finally in love—after 15 years of the gruesome incident—made my heart swell. I am sorry that I sound swoony but this book is beautifully written. it bounces me back to Indigo Ridge with the suspenseful atmosphere with a flow of chemistry. excellent read for the first week of April. also, to claim I get more curious about the whole series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I got this book randomly for free and I decided to read the beginning to see if I’d like it.
Cut forward to 18 hours later, and I’m finished.
It was such a sweet book (even though it had a mystery aspect and crime). I haven’t read just a sweet small town romance in a while.
It was a good palate cleanser in between this massive fantasy series I’m reading, and I’m going to look into getting the rest of the series. I’m invested in the rest of the family and their stories. I need more.

This was a perfect book to scratch my small town itch that I can't seem to get rid of right now. Not only was it sweet, but it also had a decent plot that kept me on my toes for most of the book. Maybe I'm just completely dense, but I did not see the plot twist coming lmao. She did a good job at setting up the next book for the next couple, too. Definitely think I'll be reading it. I really loved all of the side characters and thought their personalities were fleshed out pretty well. I especially loved all the animals in the story hehe.

4.5 ★ There really is nothing better than small town romance with an element of suspense. This was my first book by Catherine Cowles and i really enjoyed it! I always loved reading thrillers, but sometimes they made me too anxious, so I find that reading “romantic suspense” is the perfect mix bc they are never too stressful but i’m still on the edge of my seat at times. Everly was raised in a secluded part of the mountains with a family that seemed to me like doomsday preppers. From a young age she was pulled from school and taught survivalist skills. When her father kidnaps an innocent girl, Everly risks her life to turn him in. Now, 15 years later, she’s returned home, but not everyone is very happy about it. She’s met with threats from family and an extremely rude and unwelcoming Hayes, the brother of the girl her father kidnapped. I really loved everything about this book. Despite being extremely unhappy about Everly’s arrival back to town, Hayes eventually quits blaming her and sees just how much she had to suffer in order to save his sister all those years ago. Everly is determined to face the demons from her past that are now threatening her future. They both had a lot to overcome, and i loved seeing the dynamic with Hayes and his family as well. The romance between them was so natural, they go from being “enemies” to acquaintances to temporary roommates to friends to lovers and I thought it was perfect for them. AND no miscommunication or 3rd act break up, sign me up for more of that. All of the drama / suspense at the end was external to the relationship and tbh I definitely didn’t see it coming! Highly recommend if you want a heartwarming romance with a heroine who rescues animals, a protective small town sheriff, and a string of mysterious attempted kidnappings that no one can seem to solve.
