Excellent entrepreneurial advice, Vaynerchuk demonstrates exceptional foresight of what platforms and shapes businesses would use and take since 2009; that being said, it is unfortunate that I read this book a whole decade after it was published. Though not all of his projections came to pass, the high accuracy percentage is astounding and reassures me that he knows what he's talking about and there is sincere legitimacy to his advice. Additionally, beyond all the tips and tricks and methods he implores his readers to adhere to, Vaynerchuk's most lasting impression comes in the form of insistence that he places family and loved ones above all else.

Starting out with this book, I thought it was going to be a tired high-level spew of Gary Vee's keynotes. In keynote form, that's fine, it's motivating. But not in book form.

Luckily it got better. And there was actually some practical advice on how to "hustle" in the social networking realm. The book promotes workaholism as an ideal a bit too much, IMHO, but that's Gary's nature. All in all a worthwhile read that has motivated me to make my next side project directly related to one of my greatest passions.

I used to adore Gary Vaynerchuk. When I was younger I was following him on social media and I was consuming his videos like chocolate candies. At some point, I grew up. His “you can do anything you want” sounded vague and unrealistic. Still, I admire his persistence and I’m sure that a lot of people will find value in what he says.

Unfortunately, Crush It! feels like endless praise for social media. How cool it is to be everywhere online and why you should bombard people with tweets and posts.

And while he talks about persistence he also often throws advise that are beyond unrealistic. For example: “Knock the hell out of your content for a few months and it’s entirely possible that someone from The Today Show is going to ask you to talk about board games or your blog on their program.”

Not that I was expecting something different. As mentioned, I’m aware of his work. Still, I wanted to read one of his books and prove myself wrong.

However, this didn’t happen. My initial instinct turned out to be right. Crush It! is vague and unimpressive. There aren’t a lot of practical tips that can actually help you along your entrepreneurial journey. Only noise and cheap self-help talk.

My main takeaway from the book is the following: find something you’re passionate about and don’t stop talking about it.

Much like the author this is a short and sweet book. Gary always gets to the point quickly, he'll tell you what you need to know but it's his genuine caring attitude that separates him from others. I've read bad reviews of this book and I'm stunned that Gary himself has taken the time to reply to the reviewer in a loving and supporting way. I haven't seen any other author do something like that and it's especially incredible if you follow what Gary does in a day. The fact that he takes time out of his schedule to address individuals shows how much he practices what he preaches.
