Masquerade

Masquerade

Non-binary poet Cyrus Parker returns with an all-new collection of poetry and prose dedicated to those struggling to find their own identity in a world that often forces one into the confines of what's considered "socially acceptable." Divided into three parts and illustrated by Parker, masquerade grapples with topics such as the never-ending search for acceptance, gender identity, and relationships, and the struggle to recognize your own face after hiding behind another for so long.

3,5 stars, this is a hard one to rate. I didn’t really ‘like’ the first part, I didn’t necessarily personally relate to the second part, but it felt very personal from the writer’s perspective and I really appreciated that. I loved the third part, so that’s why it’s hard to give this an overall rating for me. It deals with important overall messages, but it also felt like something really personal from the writer and it was written in a beautiful way.

Once again Cyrus Parker has managed to hit me in the feels with his poetry. As always it's an emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end!

**i received a free ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review** Wow. Like wow. I am utterly speechless at how amazing this book was. I had to hold back from highlighting and bookmarking and screenshotting every single poem. From poems about self love, identity, love and family issues you will definitely find a poem to relate to. They are all magically written. Parker has a way of captivating you into his world with words. Definitely going to pick up a copy when it is released.
