This was a great sequel.

Emi is trying to complete the mission given to her by Amaterasu and has to face some challenges in completing the tasks.

Emi and Shiro were still great. I think I guessed Shiro’s story (that he’s Inari) when Jorogumo attacked, but I still didn’t understand why he had the onenju.

I really liked the kind of quests that they faced when they were tracking down the Kunitsukami. I think one of my favourite scenes was when Emi encountered the kodama and then later when Shiro showed up.

I really liked the side characters that were shown (for example, Yumei and Uzume) but I wanted to see more of them.

There’s still a lot that needed to be solved and I can’t wait to see how it happens as well as just seeing more interactions between Emi and Shiro.

It's hard for me to get into a series lately. I'm just so dang picky. But I do love this series so, so much! It is a bit of a slow start but honestly that doesn't bother me as much as it usually does with this series. I'm enjoying reading through Emi's journey and seeing her grow as a character is very satisfying. Also, seeing her interact with Shiro and Yumei and the others is very much enjoyable. There was also a twist (I don't believe in spoilers, so no worries there!) in here that should have been quite obvious to me a long time ago indeed but somehow I was still in shock over the whole ordeal...

DT picks up immediately after the first book so I appreciate getting right into the action. As there was a lot less world building required, reading this was pretty enjoyable for a sequel. If I remember correctly, there isn't much mention of the modern world that it is set in as compared to book 1, and definitely feels more fantastical due to that.
