Dead Reckoning A True Blood Novel
Reviews

This book made me realize that I’m tired of this series. I am only continuing on because of completionism. While this story was cozy, the charm of the series is beginning to wear off. This book has many characters from short stories that aren’t introduced properly in this story or recapped in any significant way. The pacing was slow and the writing wrote itself with no real direction, just seemingly random events happening one after another. With only two books left in the series, I can tell that the author is growing tired of this world and its characters.

Absolutely THRILLING. TEAM ERIC!!!!!!

I always love knowing what Sookie is up to - but it seems she has been up to the same thing for the last three or four books. In this book, it seems that Sookie is getting tired of all the trouble her vampire and other supes get her into, and I feel the same way. I was glad to see the return of more vampire action - and Bubba, but I can't get over how much I don't like the fairies. I really wish Charlaine Harris would give us a big epic book that would wrap this series up.

I will start off by saying that the Sookie Stackhouse novels will always remain one of my favourite series ever, but I have to admit that I felt a little disappointed. There just seemed to be not enough action and adventure. It slightly fell flat for me, however I really did enjoy it.

Alright, so I'm gonna be up front and say that about halfway through this series, I started to lose interest. Somewhere around the 6th or 7th book, I just started to get annoyed with Sookie and the plot in general. But I kept plugging on because I hate to leave a series unfinished. Unless, of course, it's completely awful *coughAnitaBlakecough* Then I got to the book before this one and rather enjoyed it. It still didn't beat the 4th book for me, but it made me interested in the series again. Now, when Dead Reckoning came out, I was a little nervous. Would it continue the trend of improvement or would it revert back to kind of sucking? ...No pun intended. Well, I'm happy to report that it didn't revert! In fact, it improved! This book is now my second favorite in the series. Honest moment here: I think the more Eric plays a key role, the more I enjoy the book, lol. I just feel that this book was written much better than some of the lagging ones in the middle. There was more development of character and less having to listen to Sookie whine about every little thing. Yes, I know... it's a first person story from her point of view. I get it. But, sometimes, Sookie can be damn annoying, lol. She was definitely less so in this book. I also enjoyed how her relationship with Sam was developed without any kind of possible romance being suggested. It had started to seem like every male Sookie ran across was destined to pine for her. Again, I know that Sam used to have a thing for Sookie, but I'm glad to see he's moved on. Another thing I enjoyed was that we start learning some interesting things about the fae and about Sookie's heritage. I look forward to seeing where Charlaine Harris is taking us when it comes to that. Also... *looks around*... I kinda want to give Dermot a big hug. He's so adorably lost! Poor guy... My main gripe with this book was the random part with Alcide. It felt so... contrived and kind of like fan service. Like Mrs. Harris threw it in there to appease the Alcide fangirls who would have thrown a fit if he wasn't in this book. It felt forced and was completely pointless. Beyond that, though, I really enjoyed the book!
