** spoiler alert ** This was a book that I picked up for a lighter read from my sister's stack. She had started reading it and was enjoying it, so I thought I might as well. It was an okay book for me. For a suspense novel, I found it a bit boring and dragging, even though it is a pretty quick read. There were multiple times, even during the chase, that I had to push myself to keep reading because I was uninterested in the outcome. It picked up pace in the end. I don't normally read thrillers or mysteries like this and maybe that's my downfall here. I was reading comments and seem to be one of the only ones who confidently picked the wrong suspect. Once I finished the book I had to go back and look for hints. I found them and felt, and in hindsight recognized the misleading passages and similar personality traits. I felt a bit dumb. The characters didn't make an impression on me. Connie seemed like a prop, no real depth, but a necessity for the author who needed a companion and driving force for Harris. The book goes into depth about rock climbing and at some points it seems unnecessarily detailed. But the research or experience that the author carried was impressive. While reading comments I saw that this was one of the author's earlier works and he is now much more well known. He has so many works that it was hard for me to find this one on Goodreads. I'm not opposed to reading more by him, I hope the growth in his writing and confidence is apparent.
