I was the first to walk on stage. I sat on my stool and scanned the crowd, finding Graham’s eyes. This was the magic. Not the fame or the fortune but finding his face in a crowd of thousands and letting the rest of the world fade away. Maybe our melody hadn’t come easily. There’d been times when our rhythm had been out of sync. None of it mattered. Because our beauty was in the refrain.

When had I never loved that woman? Maybe that kiss had woken me up. Maybe it had made me realize how goddamn lonely I’d been without her. I had Colin, but there was a corner of my heart that would always belong to Quinn. I should have followed her nine years ago. Because now it was too late.

If anyone got to be mad, it was me. Because I might have been the one to leave, but he’d abandoned me when I’d needed him most.

Rifts & Refrains is the second book in the "Hush Note" series and I have to say that I adored this one so much. Its probably my favorite Devney Perry, although its a quick match to 'A Little Too Wild" I am not sure what it is when she writes with these two other authors, but its MAGIC and this book tore me up so much and had me in so many feels! I knew from the beginning that this book would kill me emotionally and it definitely did that, but it had so much beauty and heart and redemption that I couldn't get enough of this one. If you love rock star romances, then this must be a must read for you and I loved that the rock star in this one is a female. We rarely see that in rock star romance and the author did so much wonderful recognition on that.

Quinn And Graham were once childhood sweethearts, they practically grew up together and fell in love at sixteen years old. They both had dreams but wanted to build those dreams together. But when they both made mistakes, they lost each other at eighteen and never looked back. Now Quinn is a infamous drummer for a rock band, and she is living the dream but her heart has always belonged to Graham and when her grandmother passes, she will have to return to her hometown, to her family she has neglected and the man she never forgot. But as she returns, she will have to face up to the demons of her past, reconcile with the loss of her grandmother but also rediscover a love with Graham worth fighting for this time around...

Rifts & Refrains was such a captivating story and my heart and soul was all in this story. I am honestly still speechless after reading this one. And its the best of the trilogy so far, we will see if Nixon's book will be redeemed for me. But Devney Perry really knocked this one out of the park and more. I just couldn't get enough of this one and in this story we have such sweet redemption between all the characters. Not only in the romance but also with her family members. I think what really worked so well for me was seeing the way in which these characters find their way through to each other. Its definitely rough, and they both have made mistakes, but their hearts still yearn for each other, and we see how they rediscover that love they have both hidden in the deepest parts of themselves and now its coming to the surface and seeing their fighting spirit for what they was what really made this story so beautiful. I adored seeing the way in which Quinn finds something more and repairing her relationships with her family especially, and what really made it so tender was the broken relationship with her father being rebuilt. And what truly charmed me was her relationship with Colin (Graham's son" who is a drummer and loved seeing that relationship just blossom!

Rifts & Refrains was a powerhouse of a romance that delivered breathless emotion, poignant character growth and precious intimate moments that breathes life into the reader!

I don’t think anyone is surprised that I absolutely loved a second chance romance written by the second chance romance queen. As usual, she knocked it out of the park. 

This one was incredibly emotional. I spent half the book hating most of the characters for the way they treated Quinn. I get that they had their reasons, but oof. It physically hurt me to see her get brought down so many times. ON TOP of her already grieving over her grandma. Personally, I don’t think it was deserved, but I love how the author brought them all together and healed their relationships. It was very touching and heart warming. 

So much push and pull from Graham and Quinn. I really didn’t think they’d find a way to make it work, but I love how it ended. So many happy tears. Plenty of sad ones too all throughout lmao.

This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I had no idea at the time of accepting Rifts and Refrain for review that it was part of a series written by different authors. The good thing though, I had no issues with following the story as it can stand on its own. Each book in the series focuses on a different band member, making me desirous of picking up the other books in the series.

Rifts and Refrain gives us Quinn and Graham’s story. Quinn, the female drummer for the Hush Notes, is fulfilling her dream of being a rock star. Basking in the fame and the glitter of being a star. On the surface she appears to enjoying it all, however beneath it all she lives with regrets, pain, anger and a broken heart. Never once during this time did, she return home, but all would change when she found out her grandmother died. So, for the first time in nine years, she returns home to face her past. 

Wow! Perry delivered a tale which took the reader on an emotional journey of love, regrets, grief, family, fulfilling dreams, forgiveness and second chances. I suggest you have a box of tissues on hand if you plan to read this book. Nine years of pain, anger, unforgiveness and heartbreak leapt from the pages. Not everyone welcomed her with open arms. She had several hurdles to overcome to reach the point of healing and forgiveness. They could all have avoided the heartache, the pain and the estrangement through communication and understanding.

I loved how Quinn and Graham found their way back to each other. It wasn’t easy, but I am glad they managed to work it out. They both have grown in the past nine years, which was clear in the sacrifices they were willing to make for each other. Everything about their romance felt real.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Overall, I had a wonderful time with this book and would recommend it to fans of second chance romance.
