Finally I finished this series! I've gotten around to reading this book more than a year and a half late, but it was really nice to read about Winter, Marcus and crew for one last time.

There was a lot of recapping going on in this book and, if I hadn't had such a long hiatus between this book and the previous one, I would've been really annoyed by this. Thankfully they were helpful reminders of past events that jogged my memory so I wasn't wholly lost here.

Winter's entire character arc is the absolute best in this series! All of her personal relationships and inner turmoil made for great reading and I love her most. A new character that made the biggest impact for me was Prince Matthew, and I'm a little bitter he didn't get introduced in an earlier book because he was excellent and I wanted more Matthew/Raesinia friendship dynamic. 

The biggest disappointment was the Final Battle of Beast/Jane vs. Winter. I was hoping for something a bit more epic, but instead I was getting slight flashbacks to the last episode of NGE... It wasn't bad though (Sooootttthhhheeee aaaahhhh) but I wanted more after so much buildup.

Overall loved this series for scratching my flintlock fantasy itch! Please feed me more military fantasy!
