Murder Must Advertise A Lord Peter Wimsey Mystery
Reviews

Why do I always have such a hard time reading Dorothy Sayers book? They are always very well-written, I like the characters and usually enjoy the story, but still. I think the main problem is that her books are too wordy. There are too many details and descriptions that clutter the story, make it hard to enjoy fully and spoil the read somehow. This could have been a fantastic book but it turned out to be a bit too tedious to read.

3.5

I love Dorothy Sayers. She's actually one of my favorite authors, and I find myself falling in love with Lord Peter again. There's the usual 30s stuff that's abhorrent (and as usual, I don't know why it wasn't then). But there's also quite a bit of conversation about people minding their own business, versus doing the right thing. And morality. And how advertising challenges ethics, which was kind of funny from time to time in the story. The thing about Lord Peter is that he's often ashamed of catching the whodunnit, and even his sister, who loves her quite troubled brother, talks about being the hangman's sister in this book. It hurt me when I read them as barely a twenty-year-old. Now, it truly makes me kind of ache for this character I've loved. I grabbed this one first because it was the first one I saw when I was choosing a Reading Rush tbr, but I think Im about to start a Sayers re-read!
