In the night, I get up to pee, and when I come back, Miles is splayed out in the middle of the bed, arm outstretched like he'd been reaching for me in his sleep.

Seeing him there, lit by the moon, sends a crushing tenderness through me.

I tiptoe through the chilly room, climb into bed as gracefully as I can, but he still wakes enough to sleepily drape an arm around my waist and haul me into the warm nook of his body. "You were gone," he murmurs.

With a low, drowsy hum, he kisses my shoulder, and drifts back to sleep.

Like there's no boundary between us, like he's in my mind and heart and soul, and I want to keep him there even as I know this moment can't last.

We're cresting, and when we do, we'll float back down into reality, into our own seperare bodies.

But right now, he's entirely mine and I'm his.

I knew being with him like this would be good, and fun, and maybe even funny, but I'm surprised how my chest keeps twinging like my 

 have too much weight, and my rib cage might crack under them. I keep catching myself just before the words can tip over my lips. 

He murmes my name, like it's an exclamation, the sound you make after a perfect sip of wine.

After we eat, he pulls me into his lap at the kitchen table and kisses me like he's in no rush, like we have all the time in the world.

My eyes burn. I try to blink away the feeling.

He's looking at me like he's trying to strain something out of me. "Daphne?"

He shakes his head, frowning. "Do you know how often you do that?"

"Act like my opinion doesn't matter to you," he says.

"Everything I say," he replies, "it's like, 

Oh, of course you'd say that, Miles, you're just nice.

"You said no one wants you around," he replies. "What about me?"

"Me wanting you doesn't count?" he asks, brows knitted together.

A fiery heat wave, a series of them, one after another.

"It counts," I say. It's terrifying how much it counts.

Now I understand that the breezy, carefree Miles I first met is only his topmost layer, that his nonchalant way of moving through the world is a product of self-control, but beneath that surface, he

Now his smile softens. He touches my chin again. "Nah," he says. "This is enough."

The corner of his mouth twitches. "Then why do i feel better?"

"I'm not being nice when I tell you to not move away," he says. "I like hanging out with you. And you're the best roommate I've ever had by a landslide."

I turn to look at him. "Even when you try to be mean, you're nice."

His eyed seem to spark when he smiles. "I'll try harder."

"I'm vetting my friend's new boyfriend," she tells him. "Aren't they cute?"

He looks over, smile deepening. "I say we keep her."

"Who's going to feed and walk her?" I say.

"I will," he insists. "Every day. I promise."

"How soon until everyone in Waning Bay hears this lie," I groan.

"I'm sure the paparazzi are gathering as we speak," he replies.

 don't," I say. "Now there's no good way to get out of it. I mean, when we break up, Peter will get to feel smug and superior about 

"That's no problem," Miles says, pouring a taste of wine for each of us. "All we have to do is get married, and then just stay together until they split up. And if they have kids, just have 

 than them. If they get a dog, we get a cuter dog. If they buy a new house, we get a mansion."

"A perfect plan," I say. "Why didn't I think of it?"

He sticks his hand out to shake hers. "Nice to meet you."

"Charmed," she says, suddenly a Gilded Age heiress.

"I've got stuff to do, but if you hear from your ex, tell him I said ..." He holds up his middle finger.

" Miles moves closer. "It's okay. It's ... fuck." He pulls me roughly into his chest, his wine bottle still hanging from his hand. He kisses the top of my head like it's the most natural thing in the world.

"Daphne," he says. "I think that ship has sailed when he fucked my girlfriend, then took her to Italy for a week so he didn't have to help you pack."

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.
 
Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.
 
 Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads —Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?
 
But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex…right?

Daphne and Miles are two broken people that aren’t quite broken but are picking up the pieces along the way, helping each other find them. And they do find themselves. By themselves, for themselves, with each other, and for each other. 

Let’s ignore the fact that I couldn’t stop crying for the last few chapters (I love feeling emotions deeply 🤩)

Loved it! Absent father figure hitted a bit too close to home but otherwise it was very good! The characters reminded me a bit of Nick and Jess from New Girl :)

I’ve heard that people rave about Emily Henry’s writing but have never read anything by her before. I went into this book with no expectations or preconceptions, I didn’t even read the blurb, and to say I was blown away is an understatement. 

The feeling I got reading this book is EXACTLY the feeling you want to have when reading a romanic comedy. This felt like summer. The flow of the book just left me wanting more after even the first few pages. 

Daphne and Miles’ relationship in my opinion had the perfect level of suspense and tension that made you want more without feeling frustrated, making their romance feel fresh and exciting. I was honestly rooting for them both the whole way through. I also felt the side characters were well fleshed out and added so much dimension to the story. 

This book was tense, feel good, hot and emotional all at once. Emily Henry… 👏 and I will be picking up everything you have written.

easy peasy read with not much soul or substance. Uncanny that I started this book whilst on my own hen’s holiday considering the start of the book.

Mas, no geral, achei enrolado demais e cansativo de tanta coisa desnecessária. I needed a cute quick read after the acotar series, and this was an amazing choice. It kept me entertained and I really enjoyed the characters. I loved seeing Daphne and Miles's relationship turn from roommates to friends to partners. I loved all the jokes in this book, and I found myself laughing multiple times. I felt like the third-act breakup wasn't totally unbelievable and I liked the parallel between that and Daphne's friendship with Ashleigh. I love all of Emily Henry's books and I would totally read this again!

First ever "romance" book. This book was easy to read and I really loved the characters! Fella's if your wife wants you to read this swallow your toxic masculinity and read this!
