Getting Real
Reviews

Hilarious, relatable, totally wonderful. Would definitely reread.

this was cute now was it bcs of the connor’s narrator or the story…idk but it gave what it needed to which was adorable single parents with hilarious kids. I’m happy.

cute wholesome (everything I've read this past month was cute and wholesome but whatever) *Didn't have the miscommunication trope (it kinda did but not at an annoying level) *Single dad always does it for me *age gap romance (12 years) * H is a doctor and h is a nurse😏

sometimes all you want is a good romance with mature people who are into healthy communication and there is no drama, just pure fluff and romance. this book is one of those 🥰

This was a great low angst, coworkers to lovers, single dad, age gap romance! Vi and Connor have worked together in the ER for two years, Vi a nurse and Connor a doctor. But Connor is a divorced, busy single dad and doesn’t have time to get involved in a relationship. Until Vi lets it slip to Connor’s sister in law that she has a thing for him. This book had one of the best examples of how to write fictional kids I’ve ever read. They talked and acted their age. Connor was such a great dad to his three boys and I loved seeing their relationship on page! Also, the scene where he’s bragging to his divorcee support group about being cool and not clingy with Violet had me so tickled. This book was so funny. Connor really was clueless when it came to dating. Violet was so realistic. Her telling a gross ER story on a blind date had me cackling. I come home with the grossest stories and it always squicks everybody out, so hard relate. When she’s mad at Connor for being a bonehead and dumps the coffee he bought her into the trash can, I was like yes my girl go off!! All in all, this was pretty low angst. There is a car accident involving one of the boys that literally made my heart hurt. Connor and Aaron, his oldest son have a conversation that just hurt my soul. There’s a minor miscommunication incident later in the book, but it’s resolved super quickly. Like within a handful of pages. Also, Kudos to the author for how well versed she is in medical situations. That’s something that can take me right out of a book when I’m reading if it’s not done right. I thought the way she captured the emotions and feelings that come with being a healthcare worker was so spot on. 5⭐️ 2 🌶

I haven’t read the previous books in this series, but this one jumped out at me so I decided to just pick it up. I’m so glad I did because I loved it! This was such a fun feel good romance. It made me laugh, smile and swoon. The single parent trope is always a hit for me. I loved all the characters in this book, especially Connor’s boys. They really made me laugh. Connor and Violet are both relatable characters. They were both secretly crushing on each other from the beginning and they have such genuine chemistry. They just fit together so well! Connor was such an idiot when they first started dating, and while it was annoying it also had me laughing at how clueless he was. But I’m glad he got over it quickly and came to his senses😅 I’ll definitely be going back and reading the rest of the series!

“Yeah,” my youngest concurs, “and then, you know—if things go good, you and Violet can be F-buddies.” The Jack and Coke I hadn’t quite finished swallowing goes spraying out of my mouth. At the same time, Violet coughs, choking on her wine. “We could be what?” I rasp. Spencer blinks innocently. “Fun buddies. Mrs. Goober pairs us up into fun buddies every week so no one gets left out at recess.” Oh.” I nod, clearing my throat. “Fun buddies, right, got it.”
