Wow did I love this book.

It was such a gripping read and one I just had to finish as soon as I could, if I hadn’t had responsibilities throughout the days I would’ve finished this book within a couple of hours! This book had me trying to figure out who did it throughout the entire book and to say I was surprised by the ending would be an understatement. 

This book gets a well deserved 5/5 stars for bringing out my inner detective and still being able to shock me to the core by the end of it. 

I highly recommend this book if you’re into mystery/thriller novels!

definitely think i misinterpreted the summary because it sounded like a very good setup for a mystery/investigation that Beckett conducts and finds secrets that hit a bit too hard at home but frankly, it was all over the place.

This book has content warnings for dead of a parent, drug addiction, stillbirth, and panic attacks.

I read this book in one sitting and that wasn't planned at all. This book just completely sucked me in and I couldn't stop reading. This ended up being more of a mystery than I expected as well and I didn't mind that. Towards the ending it did get a bit annoying because I had already figured it out and the characters weren't even seeing it as a possibility and I just kept yelling at my book. Besides that I also just really like the discussions this book gave. Not just on the topic of teen pregnancy, sex ed and community support (which are super big topics in this book) but also on cyberbullying and coming to terms with the fact that one of your parents isn't who you thought they were. It was all really well done and really well balanced. The main character was quite annoying because she was super hypocritcal and it would constantly be pointed out to her and she even acknowledges it herself in her inner monologue yet she does the same thing over and over again. That kept me from fully loving this book but I would still highly recommend this one.

Every Single Lie was not what I was expecting it to be. Rachel Vincent took us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, and every time I thought I had the “big” secret figured out, I was rerouted and taken on a different road of leads.

I really loved how the author crafted this story. I think the storytelling was fantastic, and the plot building was among some of the best I’ve seen. I really liked how she developed each of the characters, and I do think each and every one had challenges and consequences they faced that changed them throughout the book. I was unable to put this book down from the moment I picked it up. I read this book in one, three and a half hour sitting, and I can assuredly say that I was significantly blown away by how much I enjoyed the story.

Something I really found myself squealing “yes!” at was the author’s ability to descriptively write out a teenage character. Too often in Young Adult books, I read from characters who sound and act more like adults than they do as characters. Beckett acted like a real teenager. She faced bad decisions on her part, and she dealt with the consequences to the best of her ability. I loved seeing that, and I wish we had more of that in this age group.

One thing I didn’t really like about this book was that, it did come across as too much at certain points. Honestly, I think three plot twists are my personal limit, but when we’re going upward of six in one story, it starts to make me think, “really? There’s more?” Along with that, I had a hard time believing that the big scandal just died down toward the end. It was more so like it was wrapped into a nice, shiny bow, and I was a bit less than impressed with that.

Overall, I did really enjoy this story. For that, I rate it 4 stars. I’ll be looking forward to reading more from Rachel Vincent in the future.
