Fear

Fear

Michael Grant2012
Night is falling in the FAYZ. It has been nearly a year since everyone over the age of fifteen disappeared. And even though everything changed, the sun continued to shine on those left in Perdido Beach. But now the gaiaphage has blotted out the sun and plunged the FAYZ into perpetual gloom. Divided and dispirited, the survivors face their greatest enemy yet - the darkness of their own minds.

Within the FAYZ, life breaks down while the Darkness takes over, literally—turning the dome-world of the FAYZ entirely black. In darkness, the worst fears of all emerge, and the cruelest of intentions are carried out. But even in their darkest moments, the inhabitants of the FAYZ maintain a will to survive and a desire to take care of the others in their ravaged band that endures, no matter what the cost. I loved many things about this book, and it felt like the best entry in the series so far. I loved the relative peace at the start. Even though it's obviously temporary, it's really nice to start a book in a fairly nice setting. The split groups have both worked out a system that works for them, and even though Caine is obviously not an ideal leader, things work out decently for a while. I loved exploring the world outside of the FAYZ. These chapters were some of the most interesting in the entire book. Seeing the parents and how the rest of the world reacts to the FAYZ was really interesting. How some of the former "bad guys" were shown a lot more sympathetic. Diana and Orc come to mind. I loved Orc this book, he's quickly becoming one of the characters I'm most invested in. I just felt terrible for Diana through most of Fear, but I love that she's a really strong person. The ending of the book is really interesting and elevates the entire storyline going into the final book in the series, Light.

This was so good, I'm kinda depressed knowing that I'll have to wait to know who lives and who dies, but I also don't want the series to freaking end! I recommend this book to everyone! :)

As good as all the others in one of my favourite series. As heartracing, bloodboiling, adrenlin field as the others.

"…death is better because death is the end of fear, isn’t it?" OH. MY. GOD. I CAN'T.... 'LIGHT' is my most-anticipated book for 2013. Hands. Down.

This is one of those books that you absolutely cannot put down regardless of what you're supposed to be doing instead and how important it is. Nothing matters when you're in the FAYZ. This is one of the only books that I have ever read where I haven't stopped to question anything that happens even once, which is really saying something because this series contains some really bizarre and disturbing things. But that's the beauty of Michael Grant's writing. When I'm in the FAYZ I forget about everything else. I devour every single word, and whatever happens, no matter how far fetched it seems, just fits perfectly into the story somehow. I can't explain it, but every time, I think, "Exactly! That's how that happened, and this is why it's like that!" Everything is so carefully constructed, yet so full of unexpected twists and turns. The Gone novels have burrowed their way into my mind and somehow I know that they will continue to haunt me for years after the series has ended, but those are exactly the kinds of books that should be read, the kind that can never be forgotten.

The story just keeps on getting more interesting. I found the narrative to be particularly good here, and I can't wait to see what happens in the finale. There are a ton of open loops in the series now, so it's going to be interesting to see how they are tied up. I found the writing to be fast-paced as usual, and it was a joy to read.
