Literally what the hell was this book. It has a good premise right but it’s so cheap and tacky and she used too many exclamation marks and it’s such a crappy badly written book how can this author be New York Times best selling? Do. Not. Pick. Up.

This book. The only book other than HP: Deathly Hallows that I stayed up until 4:49 am to finish. 5/5 stars. I loved the relationship between Caleb and Ava! Maybe in my flight home for Christmas I’ll meet my own Caleb

She really built up this character to be a terrible person just for the reader to find out it was because she had an abortion. She can get a fucking abortion if she wants to, cut the crap.

About the best friend and the little brother. This is hate to hate to lust to a lot more lust, mixed signals and lack of communication, that ultimately leads to forever love with a grand gesture. It’s my kind of read and Samantha Young definitely knows how to yank on all the heart strings. Summer read types of feels.

Not a fan of these new cartoonish covers .... it doesn’t fit the story. Hopefully, Romancelandia will quit with these covers soon. If the cover fits the story then yes, please use.

Gah. I LOVED most of this book. So, so, so much. And it would have been a five star read. But then the big act three plot twist came and I just felt dull and numb to the revelation. It really changed how I saw a certain character and their half-assed actions after that didn’t help.

I still love the book, the story overall, and the chemistry between the characters, as well as the general premise, is just soooo good … but yeah, that revelation about a specific character’s past was really poorly done. I am not even upset that they were hurt or had trauma over it, I think that is absolutely reasonable. But it was handled poorly on the author’s part, and honestly felt out of character for the person it was in relation to. It more or less felt like it was written in for the shock factor, and the offhand moralizing was off putting. 

Again, I still love this book and the characters. I just don’t love that part.

So much love! So addicting! This was my first Samantha Young book, and now I’m dying to read all of her other ones! This is super fun enemies-to friends with benefits-to lovers trope and I had such a great time devouring it. 

It’s about this career driven woman named Ava, who meets this ridiculously hot Scottish man at the airport and then they’re forced to sit next to each other, bickering the entire way through. I loved the banter and the witty dialogue. These two hate each other but their is still a strong sexual chemistry. They’re both attracted to the other but since they hate one another’s personality, it just makes sense to bang it out with no plan of feelings ever getting involved right? When Caleb ends up in Boston for a short business meeting, they decide once wasn’t enough and they take up a sexual relationship, but then they start to actually like each other and then decide to becoming friends. Slowly they begin to open up to one another and fall for each other, fighting it the whole way through. Both have broken pasts and they are terrified of history repeating itself.

Such a fun plot! The enemies to lovers trope is my favorite and I can’t stress enough how WEL it is done here. These two truly fall in love and it’s beautiful to watch. Caleb is beyond hot, especially if you love alpha males. He was Sam Hueghan in my brain and I had a great time with him. (They even compare him to Outlander!) I will say though I wish the groveling at the end was a bit more. I would loved to see more of them as an actual couple, but the location of where he showed up was great and the epilogue was very sweet. 

I really loved Ava! I thought she was a strong protagonist and had a lot of depth to her. Her backstory was so sad and I felt so bad for her! I loved her friendship with Harper and the subplot of what was going on with Harper was crazy. So much angst! But a great message of strength. 

The ANGST! made my heart hurt! I didn’t see some things coming and was on the edge of my seat a good portion of the second half. 

I really hope we get another one because like Caleb said, Jamie needs to find his Ava! And I want to see more of these two! Really great story and I can’t wait to read more of Samantha Young’s book!

There are just some authors that when you have an opportunity to read an ARC copy of a much anticipated and Amazon named "Best Book of the Month" book, you run, don't walk, to your reading device and DEVOUR that book in one sitting. Or at least, that is exactly what I did.





Samantha writes in a way that it's like my friend reading retelling me a story that happened to her; I just get sucked in and don't ever want the story to end.

The story opens up in a very high stressed location for everyone; the airport. Ava Breevort is attempting to fly home to Boston after a VERY emotional trip to her childhood home in Pheonix. In attempts to make that flight a bit more tolerable by upgrading to first class, she is cut off by the very handsome Scottish Viking God, Caleb Scott. Their electric, hostile encounter leads to a hilarious turn of events where they are unable to run from each other. This encounter leads to a layover that we all have dreamed of having.

After the steamy layover, the two decide to keep their physical relationship going, I mean, what could possibly go wrong, right?

I won't go into really any more detail because really, this book is worth the read.

While I am unable to really connect with the main character, Ava, I can connect with the pain that she experiences. Her pain is real and is felt through the book. But so is her love and her loyalty. I personally would want someone like Ava as a friend, she may seem perfect, but like us all, she isn't, and that is how we all can connect.

Now, my favorite character would be the antagonist in this story. Caleb Scott. How is it possible for Samantha Young to have created a fictional character that I would like to sit next to on my next flight?! I mean, this guy is a tall glass of water with a shot of yummy on the side (I personally have a soft spot for gingers...even blonde gingers).

This book has everything you would want in an entertaining romance read. It has laughable situations, heartache, drama, sexy love scenes (is it hot in here or is it just me?), and characters that you love.

If you are a fan of Samantha's On Dublin Street series, you will enjoy Fight or Flight.

I really enjoyed this book! It was not as predictable as I thought it would be! I absolutely loved how the author even made me hate Caleb in the beginning! He was seriously such a dick. But I can’t believe how fast I ended up loving him. 

Sad it’s a stand alone, I definitely could have used more of this couple.

All the stars! All the beautiful stars! I am romcom obsessed and I liked this friends with benefits, to scared lovers, to real lovers. It’s just amazing and the audiobook is fantastic!

First few chapters were hard to get into although the adult scenes were very well written. The hardcore pro-birth made me uncomfortable, and was literally one of the worst things you can bother adding to your book. (Kinda Spoiler) Literally the whole making out a character to be horrible only to find out it was because she had an abortion due to not being mentally ready for a child was just uncalled for. She could’ve done better in that department.

Okay I absolutely loved this and couldn’t put it down BUT I was so f*cking mad at Caleb! Bruh. AVA DESERVED YOU SOONER. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 but i really appreciate how strong Ava was! Like yes girl get pissed off. But I’m so mad at how he made her look like a fool! Wtf. Get with the program idiot. Samantha Young has this thing with her Scottish heroes that puts them on the edge of redemption I swear 🤣 but this was funny, heartfelt, and a really sweet story. I would say it starts off very rom-com and had me cracking up but definitely gets serious. I loved the friendship aspect so much as i feel like that’s something so often missing in romance novels. BUT GODDAMN IT WE NEEDED MORE GROVEL. this easily would’ve been 5 stars if we had more grovel. Caleb put her through too much 🤬 although I really hope there’s a sequel in the works for Harper and a certain brother 👀 I want her story 🥺

Super cute story! It starts off as your typical spicy love, enemies to lovers book, but characters get more complex and their personalities and backgrounds more engaging as the story goes on. However, their background stories are not dense, and these are wowen into the main story effotlessly and in a very natural way.

Two stubborn strangers are seated next to each other on a plane where snarky barbs and sexual tension are exchanged, and later lead to a completely consensual, sexy as all get out, sex-a-thon.

Ava detests the arrogant, tattooed, and bearded Scotsman who appears to be rude and cold to most everyone he encounters, but still manages to turn her on more than anyone she's ever met. When he propositions her for a sex-only arrangement, she cannot resist having hate-sex with the bastard, but eventually catches feelings as one does when it turns out he's actually kind of perfect for her.

Young is excellent at writing angsty, tempestuous romance, and this is no exception. That said, I felt a bit betrayed by the light-hearted cover and description promoting this title, as there are some very difficult and triggering topics covered, including miscarriage, death, abortion, and cheating. I think I would have enjoyed the story more if I had just a little more forewarning, so here's yours!

Also, I'm just not really in the mood in 2018 for an asshole rich guy. I never really grew to like Caleb throughout the story. I often wanted to punch him in the face. The conflict between the characters mostly stems from them not getting along at first, and just a whole lot of secrets and lack of communication. 





Also, SPOILER ALERT> (view spoiler)[Caleb does not put on a condom during one of his and Ava's sexual interludes, and when Ava alerts him to the fact he isn't wearing one, he continues to have sex with her and almost refuses to stop despite her insistence. That didn't sit well with me, especially when the reader later finds out a lot of Caleb's "issues" stem from the fact he got his last, awful girlfriend pregnant and in his words "murdered" his baby without his consent.. I'm not here for the abortion shaming (hide spoiler)].

Fight or Flight ended up being less fluffy romance and more emotional than I anticipated, but I loved that about it. Don’t get me wrong, there are swoons and sexy times and a few laughs... but there are also some very real feels. Personally, I loved the combination. 

Caleb wasn't the easiest nut to crack. In fact, he was a jerk in the beginning. I wasn't sure I would warm up to him. But oh, did I ever. There was so much more to him than met the eye. I absolutely adored Ava from the beginning. She was so very relatable. Their hate-to-love struck all the right chords with me. Their chemistry sizzled from the very start and their banter was A+. But it was really once things started getting deeper and more emotional, when truths from their pasts were revealed, that Fight or Flight became something special. Oh, the feels. (And yes, tears.)

I have high hopes we'll see Caleb and Ava again in another book. I'd love to see more from this world and from the secondary characters. This book was satisfying, but as is often the case, I want more. Yes, I'm a greedy reader. 😉

My main critique is that I don’t know how I felt about the scene where Caleb talked about Carissa’s abortion, but I don’t feel that it was done with the care it maybe should’ve had, especially with regard to Carissa’s right to bodily autonomy. Thank you to Berkley Romance for the free ebook via NetGalley! FIGHT OR FLIGHT by Samantha Young was such a delight to read! This enemies-to-lovers story (aka my favorite romance trope) is fun and sexy while still being thoughtful. I read it during midterms week, and it was the perfect escape. I also really appreciated how the romance wasn’t the absolute center of the female protagonist’s life — she has a successful career and meaningful friendships, which all play an equally important role. And for any Outlander fans out there—her romantic interest is Scottish...need I say more? Definitely check this one out, it’s a gem.
