Four Aunties and a Wedding

The aunties are back, fiercer than ever and ready to handle any catastrophe--even the mafia--in this delightful and hilarious sequel by Jesse Q. Sutanto, author of Dial A for Aunties. Meddy Chan has been to countless weddings, but she never imagined how her own would turn out. Now the day has arrived, and she can't wait to marry her college sweetheart, Nathan. Instead of having Ma and the aunts cater to her wedding, Meddy wants them to enjoy the day as guests. As a compromise, they find the perfect wedding vendors: a Chinese-Indonesian family-run company just like theirs. Meddy is hesitant at first, but she hits it off right away with the wedding photographer, Staphanie, who reminds Meddy of herself, down to the unfortunately misspelled name. Meddy realizes that is where their similarities end, however, when she overhears Staphanie talking about taking out a target. It turns out Staphanie and her family are The Family--actual mafia, and they're using Meddy's wedding as a chance to take out a target. Her aunties and mother won't let Meddy's wedding ceremony become a murder scene--over their dead bodies--and will do whatever it takes to save her special day, even if it means taking on the mafia.

Meddy is too grown to be acting like she in high school.

I LOVED this book! That’s no surprise though, because the first in the series - Dial A For Aunties - was also a 5 star read for me. I just can’t get enough of Meddy and her wacky, wonderful aunties. I really hope to see a third book soon!

I loved the first book but the aunties are getting /too/ out of hand for this one, even for the big aunty whose role usually works as the firmest pillar of them all.. And I was actually excited to see the wedding between Meddy and Nathan but we barely got the chance to witness the wedding of our favorite couple! However despite them all, I would still looking forward for the third book coming next year 🤍

I was in a very bad place so I decided to read this book and it was a righy decision. Four Aunyies and A Wedding delivered the hilarity, yhe confusion, the romance, but also the tension that comes with a mystery book. I love seeing the aunties and their antics--it was entertaining, but also very human. This and the stark contrast between Nathan's Eurasian family was really well thought out and very enjoyable. Love it much more than the first!

at first i thought the plot was promising but as the story progressed, i couldn't handle the secondhand embarrassment i was getting from the aunties because a lot, if not all, of their "chaotic" moments happened quite literally in front of a crowd... and that really stressed me out lol i found myself reading just for the sake of finishing it that's why i'm rating it low ://

This was just somehow really missing the magic of the first book AND every character annoyed me the whole time except maybe the aunties I can't be too mad at them.

first off, i'll say that i loved dial a for aunties. it's still one of my favorites. it was great comedy, great representation of southeast asian culture, etc. but i feel that the sequel erred and strayed pretty far into over-exaggerated stereotype. i also think that it was understandable for meddy to not tell nathan last time, but this time... so many things could've gone much less gratingly if she had. i think there's a difference between funny and annoying and personally this book just annoyed me more than it made me laugh. the plot also just didn't seem as thought out as the last book was.

** spoiler alert ** 3.5 stars i really wanted to give a higher rating to this book but sadly it just wasn’t as good as Dial A for Aunties. i feel like so many things that i loved from the first book were exaggerated here and it made me cringe too many times while reading. while i love the aunties and meddy’s relationship with them and her mother, i got so frustrated several times during the book. another thing that bothered me a lot was the fact that nathan was barely in the book, even though he and meddy get married halfway through it. i really thought that after the events of the previous book he’d be included more in this one but i was kinda annoyed that he was kept in the dark the entire time. the ending was cute though, and i feel like there’s a set up for a possible third book. if it is, then i really hope nathan is included this time around and isn’t just a background character. anyways, still love meddy, the aunties and meddynathan!

Update 13/05/2022 You can find the rest of my reviews at An Ode to Fiction. | Subscribe to my Booktube channel Official Release Date : March 29th 2022 Buy the book : Amazon|Book Depository 1.5 rounded up to 2/5 ⭐️ Ah I am very disappointed in this sequel. It is ridiculous how the things that seemed endearing are overused in this one novel. One thing that I've noticed differed from the first book is that the author really banked in with how crazy ridiculous the aunties are. Why boil down these four women into one single trope? Don't get me wrong, I laughed at a lot of their antics but yeah that's it. I understand that the author wants to highlight the difference between Nathan's and Meddy's family under such dire and absurd circumstances. Yet it only came off as repetitive, one dimensional, and bordering on mockery. I loved what Jesse did in the first book, showing the Chinese-Indonesian diaspora complete with the snippets of culture, language, and customs. In this sequel there are none of those. The author boiled every single auntie into a checklist of tropes. There is also my gripe with the main character Meddy that reacted by being ashamed and embarrassed to looking down on her own family. I don't know how this sequel adds dimensions to the characterization and is better than the previous book. It's really disappointing. Proceed with caution if you're thinking of picking up this book because the magic I felt reading the first book is not existent. But it is a fun story if you ignore the issues I mentioned here.

"Through everything, I've never once questioned whether or not they'll be here for me. I just assumed they would be. Because of course they will." 4 stars. •*´¨`*•.¸¸.•*´¨`*•.¸•*´¨`*•.¸¸.•*´¨`*•.¸ my blog review! •*´¨`*•.¸¸.•*´¨`*•.¸•*´¨`*•.¸¸.•*´¨`*•.¸ The gods and my mom know how much I laughed with this book. Meddy's aunties are the best. I love them soooooo much. I want aunties like those tbh. This book follows Meddy's wedding, which turns out to be an entire chaos. She wants her day go perfectly, but it turns out that the people she hired to organize her wedding are not good at all. I liked and disliked some things, but overall was fine. I'm rating this book according of how much I laughed. Which it was a lot. I was laughing so bad I ended up crying. Perhaps this was really funny or my humor is broken, but I enjoyed it. I'm in love with the fact that this book isn't just about the wedding and romance. It's also about family and how far are they willing to go or do, in order to save you or keep you safe... And in the end, you got me crying over that. This is a lighthearted, fast paced and quick book. Don't mind me taking a long time to read it because I was struggling and crying over uni, that's why it took me a while, lmao. If you're looking for a funny, quick read and comfy book, this one is for you. Also, there are some plot holes that you can't ignore and that's also why I'm rating it with 4 stars. It felt a little bit different from Dial A for Aunties, but also it's because we're having a different situation. Have in mind that there's a lot to unpack in the book because most things happen in one day and there's chaos after chaos and hOLY SHIT, I LOVED IT. I need more of the Chan Aunties because they're a walking chaos and I'm here for it. previous review: shut up, this was so fucking good. i loved it. RTC! previous update: oMG, IT'S OUT, I CAN'T WAIT TO READ IT, I MISSED MY FAVORITE AUNTIES <3 I WILL LEAVE EVERYTHING JUST TO READ THIS ONE

After enjoying Dial A for Aunties so much, when I saw the ARC available on NetGalley I knew I had to request it! Meddy and Nathan are getting married and the Aunties follow them to England for a dream wedding, with lots of hilarious shenanigans just getting there. The Aunties convince Meddy to hire another family to be the wedding vendors and Meddy quickly become close with the photographer, Staphanie. Once in England, between preparing for her wedding day, introducing the families, and trying to respectfully tame her family antics, Meddy discovers that Staphanie and her family are actually mafia and they are using her wedding to take someone out! Staphanie blackmails her to keep the wedding going, threatening to take them to the police. What follows is Meddy and her Aunties trying to protect everyone at the wedding from mafia vendors and absolutely hilarity ensues. The sequel is heartwarming and a joy to read! I already recommend Dial A for Aunties to everyone I can, but I’ll definitely eat adding this to the list too.
