Out of the Mines The Story of a Pit Boy

When Dick and his brother Kit snuck into the boarded up mine, they didn't know it would start a rumor, but they'd borrowed old Jossie's pickax and he was sure ghosts had taken his tool. Life in the colliery is always serious, but Dick makes the most of it. The 12-year-old leaves school to work underground with the pit ponies, and finally searches for a better life above ground.
