Човек на име Уве

This was my first Backman book (even though I have had the audiobook for "Beartown" lined up for ages) so I approached it with caution. I tend to be weary of overly popular authors nowadays - not out of hipsterism (though I have been guilty of that) but due to bad experience.

I breathed our a sigh of relief at how much I enjoyed "A Man Called Ove" (which I read in Bulgarian as "Човек на име Уве"). Backman's writing flows easily; it is simple and clean without being overly simplistic. It gets its point across, it is impactful - which is a skill on its own.

It is indeed the writing style that elevates what is a relatively straightforward and, dare I say, cliché plot to an excellent novel. There is a lot of humour and a lot of heart in the book that makes it a moving read.

And last but not least, compliments to the translator to Bulgarian, Цветана Генчева (Tsvetana Gencheva). A translation can make or break a novel and, as far as I am concerned, she has done an excellent job.
