Six years earlier a nine-year old school girl disappeared. A suspect was quickly accused and convicted of her supposed murder even though no body was found. Over his superior's objection, Commissioner Polonius Fischer reopens the case when he receives a letter from a school-mate of the missing girl, claiming she has been seen alive.
