Following the huge success of From Hell, Knockabout presents a stunning volume comprising a new story by Alan Moore, Snakes and Ladders, based on a performance given on Red Lion Square in Holborn. The other story, originally a performance piece by Alan Moore and Tim Perkins, was adapted as a comic by Eddie Campbell. It is a shamanism of childhood, a journey from the present to the past, back into the womb and beyond. The last part of this volume is an extensive interview of Alan Moore he gave Eddie Campbell for his self-published magazine, Egomania.

A dense book, but a good read. Not my favorite by Moore, but it's a really interesting take on the Jack the Ripper murders.

I read Moore's Watchmen last year and was really looking forward to reading more of his work. 

Knowing very little about the Whitechapel Murders, this book was a very good introduction to the subject. Extremely graphic too, so beware!  I appreciated the appendices at the end which explain a lot of details that might not come as obvious to someone not familiar with Victorian London (or London all together), with many expressions, the author's though process and the choices made in different panels throughout the book. That was clever and of great help!

Interesting, complex and probably a great literary achievement, but unfortunately let down by the artwork which makes some scenes difficult to understand, particularly in recognising characters.

I had a really hard time getting into this book, but that's the beauty of book club...you have an external motivation to keep plugging along. I felt terrible thinking, "Oh, good, he finally killed somebody," but that's when the pace picked up and I ended up staying late and waking up early the next morning to finish it. It's been awhile since I have done that. The graphics are pretty horrifying so not for those with a queasy stomach.

A friend bought me this to convert me into a graphic novels guy. I enjoyed it well enough, but I wouldn't say I'm all in. I shall not, however, close my mind to trying another one.
