After reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, I was aching for some more middle grade fantasy book with themes of friendship, found family and gripping magical adventures. This was the perfect book to follow. Was such a fun read. Excellent world-building. Looking forward to reading the second book in the series.

I needed to sleep a lot of this review as I had no idea how I felt about this. Of course, I am not that unsure if this book was good, because it definitely was.
I just think it was really hyped up for me and my expectations were definitely too high.

This was my first Polar Fantasy book ever, and I liked the setting. While a snowy world might seem a bit plain and boring, the atmosphere was great and I loved seeing how people had to adapt to cold conditions and how they would move around.
The different strongholds were characterised really well too.

The first part of the story was really nice, I liked getting to know Ash and Tobu and their life together. I felt really sad for how Ash was treated, and was happy when he managed to join the Frostheart.

The crew was so cool! I liked that there were different people of different races? Not sure this is the correct term but like one was a walrus and one a fox. But yeah, all characters were different and had strong personalities that set them apart.

The magic system I think was not my favourite. It was extremely well-developed, I am just not really into music. I like it a normal amount, but I am so bad at singing! And my musical ear is extremely underdeveloped. So reading about it was...just ok. I had a hard time imagining it.

But the drawing made up for it so well. I really liked them, they added so much to the story and I loved seeing the characters and the leviathans so I didn’t need to imagine them. The art style is also really clean and polished, which is something I really like. The fact that the writer himself did draw them makes it even better as we can see exactly what he wanted to show.

I think the plot was good. There were a few mysteries and many things to discover, and we got to visit a few places. I was expecting something just a little more, but I can’t exactly put my finger on what was missing. Maybe what I didn’t really like is that Ash was a bit stupid sometimes. I get it that he is meant to be very young and therefore a bit naive, but at times he was acting in such silly ways without using his brain properly, especially when it came to Tobu. Some of the things Ash said and did to him were so stupid and no matter how brainwashed/confused you are, they just made no sense and he shouldn’t have acted like that at all.

The reading experience was very rewarding and I am glad I got to meet Ash and the crew, and I will definitely pick up the sequels.

I loved this book so much! It was so action packed, full of adventure andcraziness but there were also so many serious things the characters were dealing with.

I got the ARC of this on NetGalley. I bought it and read the physical version.

What a conclusion! This book didn't go the way I'd hoped it would but in the best possible way. I felt so many emotions throughout this addition to the story and I'm so sad it's over. I'm going to miss these characters and this world so much but I can't wait to see what incredible piece of art Jamie Littler comes up with next.

This book was INCREDIBLE!!! I picked this up finally, Gavin never stops mentioning this book so I had to read it and I'm sooooooo glad I did!!! This book was so amazing! I was screaming (seriously ask Katie from KTReads) and crying and laughing!!! JUST READ THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVEN'T IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!!!

This book and its artwork are so beautiful I wish I had read the physical book instead of the ebook. As I already stated, Frostheart was written for children, so it's not unexpected that it was predictable. But, wow, was it foreshadowing.
Even an eight-year-old me would have had no issue predicting how things would turn out.
The pacing was also a concern for me. The book is 439 pages long, which is a good length, however, most of it moved at a snail's pace, with a lot of development and little storyline. The first 3/4 of Frostheart was a little tedious for me. 
One of Frostheart's major flaws, in my opinion, was that many things were left unexplained.
For instance, the Song-Weaving material. I know it was supposed to be mysterious, like a forgotten art, but it felt like the idea of humans and monsters interacting through song was thrown at us without explanation.
Overall, I just felt this book was okay. I wanted more from this book.

A fast paced adventure full of magic and the importance of friendship. Beautiful illustrations by the author help the characters come alive. I loved this book and raced through it in a few days. I great read for children and adults alike. I hope we get to join Ash and the Frostheart crew on further adventures.
