This is a childhood favorite that definitely stands up! The sisterly bond between Addie and Meryl is so strong, and it's definitely the heart of this story. I liked Addie and Rhys's relationship, though even when I was a kid I thought it was underdeveloped, and I still think it is. It's fine, but could have used a little more page time. The writing is also a little simplistic for my taste, but I won't fault a middle grade book for catering to middle grade readers.
