Scarlet Sash

Sebastian Early serves in the British army in South Africa, but his desire to fight with his comrades and climb the military ladder is sidetracked when his best friend is accidentally killed. He takes over his friend's job as provost-marshal, acting as a military policeman during the Zulu Wars. He finds himself investigating the bizarre murder of a captain, even though the C.O. believes the man committed suicide.
