I really enjoyed Rucka's new take on Wonder Woman, but the implementation of his story leaves much to be desired. The narrative is too compressed, and readers are thrown into new situations that aren't quite believable given the story that we're being told. I hated the whole "stick Wonder Woman in an insane asylum" bit. It was insensitive, but also just weird and narratively weak. The problem was solved too easily, and her sojourn in a padded room did little for the plot. The new problem with Ares was actually great, if only we could have gotten there in a manner that made more sense and didn't feel like Rucka was trying to throw every single Wonder Woman side character into the plot for reasons. I enjoy the result of this storyline, but the getting there wasn't all that enjoyable :l

Rucka is on Wonder Woman again!!! The Lies has a lot of interesting things going for it. And a lot of terrible things. Given this is a Rebirth title, Rucka is bringing us back to an older, different Wondy. A Wondy with her own cast outside of the Greek Gods. The set-up of Wonder Woman feeling adrift because of the effects of Rebirth and the different stories she has lived is really quite powerful and interesting. But then we get a generic monster story in the middle that's less intriguing. There are pieces of character interaction that I adore, but then half the time I am confused as to what is going on. Also, the art is really not my style. Far too in-house DC, where the boobs are large and the waists improbably small. In the end, however, this is the first canon Wondy book that's made me actively want to pick up volume 2, so hopefully the story evens out a bit more and Rucka is as awesome as he was on his last run!

This right here + that right there = The End. P.S. Yes, I do happen to think Mary Poppins is way cooler than Wonder Super Silly Woman (WSSW™). So sue the fish out of me and stuff.

As someone who hasn't read much Wonder Woman, inquire enjoyed this title. The story was interesting and I'm anxious to see what happens next. My only question is what is happening in the issues that weren't included in this collection. Thanks to D.C. and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Greg Rucka continues to blow me away with his Wonder Woman series. The more I read, the more I enjoy the series- and the more clear it becomes. I can't wait to see how volume 4 progresses! Thanks to NetGalley and DC for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I don't think this was the right place to start reading Wonder Woman comics. Whoops. I still enjoyed seeing Diana in action, but wasn't quite sure about the Leopard lady. The art wasn't my favorite, except for the panels showing Steve and Diana on a beautiful beach. I read this in part to satisfy my 2017 Book Riot Read Harder Challenge - "Read a superhero comic with a female lead."

Blog | Twitter | Instagram | A copy of this comic was provided through NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way. A massive improvement from the last issue I read from the DC Universe Rebirth sets. Oh, fine--I'm a total cliche and a sucker for anything Wonder Woman. I love my bad-ass leading ladies and am here for the dramatic and action packed issues that comics are known for. This is one of my favourite spins on Wonder Woman in terms of the graphics. I loved flipping through the pages and seeing the glorious drawings come to life in real colours. I cannot praise it enough for the artwork. You know the type of work that makes you swoon? That's what you will find in this little guy. I am 98% sure I spent the entire time consumed by the desire to swoon at every page. Which would be awkward if it wasn't understanding, right? Right?! Just nod along with me, okay? Wonder Woman, Vol. 1: The Lies wasn't the strongest in terms of the actual story telling but it was definitely better than the last DC release I picked up (Justice League, Volume 1: The Extinction Machines) and a quick read that is worthy of admiration.
