Este es creo el tercer libro que tiene como escenario el circo que reseño en el blog... Creo que los de Jeaniene Frost en algún momento tiene circo también pero no gira entorno a él. The Night Circus no logró enamorarme y The Girl Who Walked on Air tuvo solo un 50% de mi amor y en su reseña dije que mi intención era leer Girl on a Wire pero como la persona inadaptada que soy los confundí.

Antes de empezar mi lectura de este libro, leí un post dedicado a Character Agency ¿Qué diablos es eso? Según el post en TerribleMinds y lo que al menos yo entendí, es básicamente cuando la protagonista o algún personaje en la historia no deja que el libro decida sino es ella, en este caso, quién va definiendo como es que la historia va seguir. ¿Es eso que llaman personajes fuertes? No exactamente, ya que como explica el mismo post, si fuera eso Katniss entraría en la categoría de Character Agency, sin embargo no, y no es porque se le desmerezca nada, sino que Katniss es más bien víctima de las circunstancias y TIENE más que QUIERE seguir con el transcurso de la historia. Ojalá se haya entendido :D

¿Por qué mencioné todo esto? Porque al iniciar Girl on a Wire no pude dejar de pensar en Character Agency, Jules desde el inicio toma la iniciativa para todo, ella es la causante de que la historia empiece y llegado el momento donde muy bien pudo ser la Consecuencia de la historia, hace algo al respecto para seguir siendo ella quién domine las consecuencias y no al revés. Básicamente me estudié este libro :P

Siento que con cada nuevo libro con circos que leo, mi suerte va mejorando y justo ahora me enteré que Girl on a Wire es el inicio de un conjunto de libros con protagonistas diferentes en cada uno. Estoy bastante contenta con la noticia porque me gustó mucho el estilo de Gwenda Pond, estoy bastante interesada en sus otros libros.

Girl on a Wire es un libro visualmente bastante bonito, no soy del tipo que puede hacer fanart y demás, pero te juro que muero por hacerle un trailer, hay partes tan vívidas que necesito que sean vistas. Tiene la cantidad exacta de magia, romance y circo que he estado buscando hasta ahora.

EL PORQUÉ DE 4 Y NO 5

Primero por los nombres, en serio, mi lado bulliador no podía estar más insatisfecha, el nombre de los protagonistas nunca es burlado! Y se llaman ROMEO Y JULIETA. ¡O sea! Y el segundo es el destino de uno de los personajes al final, si bien es una decisión bastante lógica, incluso uno de los personajes lo dice, es la única manera en la que se puede actuar, creo que quería algo más cruel para ese personaje.

I added this book to my to read list because it is one of the candidates for the South Carolina Junior Book Awards. (I would love to read all of them on the list but my time is much more limited than I would like.)
I was not sure what to expect when I picked up the book having heard nothing about it before. I did expect the quality of the book to be at least a step above par since it did hold a place as a nominee for a book award.
Thankfully my expectations were met.
I enjoyed this book and even spent about 20 minutes longer than I had planned to read today simply to finish the book. I had reached the near climax and was not in the mood to set the book down and come back to it some time in the future. I had to finish. That is always a good sign to me.
I do have to say that at times Bond's characterizations of Jules, Remy and a few of the other characters fell a bit flatter than the ideal. Several of the things could have been predicted from the start, such as the relationship between Jules and Remy. Of course, some things in real life are entirely too predictable. In the novels I read though, I always prefer when the author does not follow the expected line.
At least one event in this novel (which I will not state to avoid potential spoilers) definitely took me by surprise. I appreciated that. Some of the fall out from that event did not make sense. I think Bond could have clarified that just a bit.
Overall, I thought this was a pretty good novel, a significant step above average but lacking that certain spark to make it a must read.
