I remember reading this book when I was 11 and being highly disturbed by it. It's one of the books I remember quite vividly even now and it kinda stuck with me my whole life, but in a very bad way. I'm still debating whether I should try reading the whole series now that I'm mature enough for it (and have obviously read my fair share of creepy and disgusting books). The fact that this is a second book in a series where I had not even known the first book existed in the time reading it might also be a factor why I had disliked it so much. I remember being so confused to what was going on.

I loved this book! It was a little hard to get into the style of flipping from present to past in the beginning, and that made it difficult to follow for the beginning, but once you got used to it, it was wonderful! Everything was done in a way that you felt the original Wicked world while realizing that it's the story of Liir and no longer the story of Elphaba. I'm very surprised that Liir did not turn out to be a carbon copy of Elphaba and stays true to the character he was as a boy in Wicked. Growth happens, but that's to be expected from a main character.

Volume Two in The Wicked Years

This story was almost a drag in it’s entirety. I quite honestly didn’t want to finish it, but did as I hate to leave books left unfinished once started. This book really turns me off from wanting to read the rest of the series.

Son of a Witch is a great sequel to Wicked. You find out what Liir gets into right after Elphaba's death and decades after with one thing on his mind, Nor. This book definitely has more of a plot than Wicked that doesn't just fizzle out constantly. Son of a Witch also made Wicked seem better and more understandable. Elphaba always wanted to accomplish something for the Animals and against the government of Oz but she didn't in a sense, plans were ruined, stuff came up and so on but her ideas live on in Liir and he does accomplish something whether he meant to or not. The only disappointment I had is that Nor is his driving force for a lot of the things he does and all we get in the end is that she is alive, no meeting, he doesn't actually find her just realizes some handwriting he saw in the city was hers. Kind of let down. I loved how he found out he is for sure he is Elphaba's son, his daughter is green! No confusing that lol, His entire life he wasn't sure and dismissed it, but now he knows. I definitely plan to finish the series.
