The art in this is absolutely stunning & has a great story. It’s a great graphic novel to pick up during the fall.

Pretty interesting mystery! And while the story follows the tropes of a detective mystery (the main kid even has a detective outfit) when the truth of the matter is unveiled, it's far more complicated than what was expected. Also the art is mostly blacks and white, very noir. I'm not sure how to feel about the final revelations. Can ostensibly evil acts be justified if the ends justify the means? Feels like there's some sequel baiting. Kind of wish we could have gotten to know some more of the characters a little more, but otherwise a pretty great read.

Bucky Orson is a gloomy teen, from Blackwell. Not only has his best friend stopped hanging out as much, but his little sister has been kidnapped. His father happens to be the Sheriff of the town, and Bucky thinks he needs to be the one to push aside what he is going through to find answers. As he uncovers what has happened to his sister, and why, he finds out the dark history of the town. . . I picked this graphic novel up on a whim because the cover caught my eye. It’s a gloomy, dark young adult story, that has witches and a spooky town! The history the author created for this small town was absolutely heart-wrenching, and fascinating. If you want a decently quick, spooky read with a lot of depth, please pick this up!

Grimoire Noir follows the story of a missing magical girl in a world in which witches have been segregated to a single town. Bucky is trying to sort out the mystery of what happened to his little sister and how to get her back. This is one of those books which have so much potential for a wildly atmospheric story which falls a little short. The artistry is gorgeous and the world-building was certainly intriguing. But the main characters weren't the most interesting. In addition, the main plot of the story wasn't as thrilling and suspenseful as what it could have been. It was a little flat and lacking. The atmosphere for this type of story just wasn't there for me. A more fleshed out story could have made this a fantastic graphic novel and I hope that further works from this author have a little more to give. This review is based on an advanced copy. Thank you to the publisher for providing me access in exchange for an honest review.

I'll be honest, I picked up this book due to the beautiful art! The story was interesting but there were some thing that didn't connect for me in the story. Overall though beautiful art and good story.

The art in this is absolutely stunning. The plot was not necessarily for me, but I still had a really good time reading this.
