It was ok. The ending was a bit rushed. I only read it for a quick good read. Definitely for teens.

That was an intense read. The person who I suspected eventually turned out to be guilty but I still caught myself second guessing with the twists thrown at you.

I’m one of those reviewers that refuses to read reviews for a book leading up to my reading it myself. I did, however, catch sight of several star ratings from 2 stars up to 5 stars, so I was pretty eager to jump into it and see what I thought for myself. I avoid the synopsis, as I much prefer going into a book with a clean slate. In this case, I believe it made all the difference.

The story starts off just days after Sawyer’s boyfriend, Kevin, dies in a drunk driving accident. Though their relationship appears picture-perfect at first glance, Sawyer was hiding the fact that her deceased boyfriend was abusive to her. While grieving this loss, she opens her locker to find a letter inside that simply reads “You’re welcome.” If this doesn’t scare Sawyer enough, strange things keep happening to her, from bullying to other cryptic letters addressed by “your admirer”. It becomes apparent to her that she’s being watched. Is Sawyer overreacting? She should be scared? Is her life, and others’ around her, in danger?

As the scare factor in this story increases, you will find yourself totally creeped out and just as eager to figure out “what is going on!?” as Sawyer was. That’s what made this story as good as it was. Jayne’s writing style has you anxious beyond belief, guessing suspect after suspect, reading as fast as you can to see “who done it”. Yes, since I accused basically everyone throughout the story at one point or another, I may have suspected the killer correctly at one point or another… but when I got to the end, I was still thrown for a loop.

Truly, Madly, Deadly was the perfect combination of creepiness and suspense. I was totally in the thriller mode while trying to figure out who the killer was… then all of a sudden I would be cringing in my seat, goose bumps covering my arms. I used to be very big into thrillers, and for some reason I’ve lost touch with them lately. This book brought back my love of mystery/thrillers.
