I loved TKAM. I knew I would like it from the first page, and was interested the whole time. The book explores prejudice and the innocence of children. I could think for hours about everything that happened, and would no doubt gain something new every time I reread it.

Don’t get me wrong the book is good, but every time I pick it up I get vivid memories of freshman year of high school in English class, were my teacher would looking at me almost every time the word negro was read (because she made us do popcorn reading) to make sure it was okay to say.

           i remember reading this book when i was in high school, the translated one. i digested the narrative bit by bit and learned about the value that this book brought easily. it had given me a new perspective about the social injustice and racism in USA through a child's eye. it delivered the value smoothly though not that deep. and the ending was just somehow hanging and it kinda bothered me at that time. but eventhough the conflict hadn't solved, the purpose of delivering the topic was done. and i guess that was what this book all about.

but i would get why most people describe this as a warm book and it was, but i didnt really feel anything to the fact that i would give this a 5 star

           only read this book for a class and it truly was interesting, but the characters annoyed me as well as the entirety of the concept and white saviors taking the role as “hero”. I felt that the book was well fit for the time but should really stop becoming a book that high schools choose for their students.

Very reminiscent of one's childhood. It even reminded me so much of my childhood, I swear. The entity of innocence was evident and was quite well-shown. Loved it! Although it took me a while to finish this and although there were so many characters that I couldn't keep track, it was definitely a good read. A good read when you put your mind to it to be exact.

Read this one night in the middle of a storm, without water and electricity because of a massive nationwide blackout when I was 16 (2012). It made me want to read more books that are not in the YA range and for that, this has a soft place in my heart. I don't know if the rating will still hold if I re-read it at present.

Despite how easing flowing the narrative is, I think we can never be reminded of too often; to sack up and be counted regardless how scary it might be. Abetrayal with crystal clear justice story

Finally got around to reading this classic and what a great surprise ! Set in the backdrop of segregation, it’s a coming of age story in which the innocence of childhood games quietly gives place to more serious adult matters. The heroine grapples with education, justice and tolerance to others and their ways and even if you don’t understand or disapprove their way, learning that « You never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. »

I’ll admit the story is a little slow at the beginning, but such is the case with most loved and admired classics. Once the story gets going, it’s hard to put down. 

I could say so many things about the creative story line, the descriptive writing style, the personable characters- everything about this book is just so good. 

But what I love most is the close attention to detail that the author possesses. The story gets more complex and the thoughts more mature as “Scout” grows up- grows up faster, perhaps than an eight-year-old should have to. 

My greatest hope is to parent my children and to treat every man the way Atticus Finch does, because “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view … until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”

So I have many thoughts on this book and I have analyzed it enough in school to not have to analyze it here. I think that reading it on my own would have been a better experience than reading it in school over a few months during which the novel was HYPERanalyzed, maybe too more than I would have liked it to have been. Also, I learned that I couldn't listen to Mr. Johnson read it aloud without going crazy, so I listened to the audiobook at double speed and followed along with my eyes. It just wasn't the best cup of tea for me so to speak. I guess I wouldn't not recommend reading it, but most people are forced to read it in school either way.

           The ending was nice ;) I wish I would’ve read it faster though, read it over the course of 3 months so I can’t really remember fine details. Don’t really understand why Jem breaking his arm made the book come full circle? I had to read the ending twice to understand that when Scout was writing the ending in the point of view from Arthur. I liked it.

Time for a re-read before teaching this book to my 9th graders, this book remains one of my all-time favorites. The book deals with topics such as racism, the death of a parent and growing up in a small town. It is beyond well written and was recently chosen as America's top read....which I agree with. A classic....and a must read for high school and adult readers.

Very disappointing. Very very dull and boring for a very long time, didn't have one full plot, story lines didn't flow, racism seemed like a sideline theme, not a main priority. overall just very unimpressed with this book. The only thing that kept this from a one star for me is it got a little interesting towards the end. but it was too little too late.

Like literally every other child in the United States (maybe elsewhere?), I had to read this for school and I don't think I really appreciated it or understood a lot of what was going on behind the scenes when I did so. I remember liking the book a lot when I read it, but before revisiting it I'm not sure I could point to exactly why that was. I read the chapters, checked the boxes, took the quiz, and apparently walked away with a memory of really enjoying the book.

I'm incredibly glad I revisited it as an adult, because there was just so much I didn't pick up on as a kid, I'm sure. I really appreciated reading about the complex racial issues here through the literal eyes of a child, especially as we got to follow them growing up in years and in maturity. I liked that the writing was simultaneously easy to follow and also hiding a lot between the lines and left unsaid.

I'm glad I revisited this as an adult with my book club, and would be open to tackling other notable books I read for school in order to give them a fair shake. Except for Ethan Frome , I won't go back to that one willingly.

I have no real issues with the book. This is one of the few classics I have enjoyed this year so far. The pace of the book is okay; it is sometimes wordy, especially when discussing the history of families in rural Maycomb or the general history of Maycomb. 

In spite of this, I felt that each chapter contributed to the overall story. The book generally was easy to understand and follow, which is not always the case with literary classics.

A lot of the action of the book happens in the second half, when Atticus is tasked with defending and supporting a man named Tom Robinson. It was particularly interesting to read about the court and jury proceedings. To conclude, I must say that I thought the book ended beautifully, in fact the whole book was well written.
