Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen
Reviews

Re-reading the series in the name of nostalgia. Didn’t realise that they changed the dialogue so much in the movies during the chess scene!

Great fun story. I enjoyed listening to it.

Book Notes:
-Harry’s inner monologue was either hilarious or depressing
-Ron’s actually a little savage
-Any moment with Fred and George was great—Harry and Ron’s relationship was adorable and watching them warm up to Hermione and start the golden trio was great
-Dursley’s were massive cunts
-Hermione is such a girl boss lying to teachers, being super smart, setting Snape on fire
-Hagrid is like a really big teddy bear
-Oliver wood keeping Harry as his secret weapon and the speech in the locker room was amazing and should’ve been added into the movie
-All the mentions of Lilly and James (Minnie talking about James being in the quidditch team and smiling was so cute but so sad)
-Perfect way to start one of the greatest franchises ever

I liked it a lot very nostalgic

First time that I’m reading them in English!
I really really admire J.K. Rowling her writing. The way the books are all connected… so well done. And the way she creates characters and names! I love it :).

reading this as an adult somehow didn’t feel very different from when I was 10 and picked it up at the school library. it made me long for a time when my biggest concern regarding this book was whether snape would occur in one of my nightmares rather than the transphobia promoted by its author.

4.25/5⭐️
Neville getting those 10 points are just as emotional in the book as it was in the movie.

reread — still as magical as always

I didn’t give her money and I won’t give it a real rating, just listening through the series to feel like it’s fall.

reread

After surviving under his dreadful aunt and uncle's care, Harry Potter is thrilled at the prospect of starting a new life at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is no longer just an ordinary boy; he is one of the most powerful yet still very ordinary wizards the world of Hogwarts has seen. We all secretly wish for this, an escape to a magical world filled with wonder where we can be something more extraordinary. Rowling gave us that escape in 1997, and it would continue to be an escape for people of all ages for 25 more years.
I was first introduced to the word of Harry Potter when I was very young; I would often read the book series 10 times over. Being so young, I never fully understood what an amazing book this one is as I favoured the Chamber of Secrets and Goblet of Fire. Albeit controversial, Rowling is undoubtedly brilliant regarding world-building; there are still so many details and secrets I notice hidden within Hogwarts during each revisit. The magic created was not lost on me the older I've gotten; I find it even more magical and brilliant now than when I did all those years ago. There isn't much else to say, as people have been saying the same things for years.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is my ultimate comfort read; I adored every second. It's one of those books I'll revisit for many years and my go-to book for getting out of a reading slump.

I have lost count of how many times I've read the first four Potter books (I've read all of them several times but the first four has something special.) This time was sparked by watching Fantastic Beasts at the cinema and wanting to read something that in no way could end up being research for my Master's Thesis. I needed something that I could just breeze through. Reading it feels like being wrapped up in the most comfortable and warm blanket. Like going home. It never ceases to amaze me that this is a debut novel.

can’t stop thinking about fred & george unknowingly snowballing voldemort

3/5 It's never too late to read Harry Potter books okay.

March Pick for the BTSBC Reading Challenge
Read this for the first time since I was probably around 10 years old, and it felt like the very first time.
The Wizarding World in Harry's eyes is beyond enchanting. There is so much life, so much history, so many little otherwise insignificant little details that just make this world all the more tangible. Choosing to read the Minalima edition of this book adds to this immersiveness and pairs so well with the playfulness and quirk of this world and everything in it.
I adore Harry and his story. He's so used to being on the outside, being left alone, being unloved. In the wizarding world, the love he receives is overwhelming, the love the friends he made has for him is unfathomable. The kindness and bravery displayed in helping others he witnesses getting bullied is adorably heroic.
I'm excited to revisit the rest of this series :D

It is embarrassing how long its been since I last read this book. As I've heard great things about the audio version of this book I decided to try it out & I must admit I am pleasantly surprise with how much I loved it. Jim Dale is the perfect reader & J.K. Rowling's writing comes magically to life with his narration. If reading Harry Potter for the first time is amazing, it is much better to reread them knowing what's going to happen in the future & how J. K Rowling foreshadows so many things. If possible my love for this series has grown & I recommend for all Harry Potter fans to listen to this books as well as read them.

Last time I read Harry Potter, it was in 2012. Now 6 years ahead, it feels so good to be back!

'So light a fire!' Harry choked.
‘Yes - of course- but there's no wood!’ Hermione cried, wringing her hands.
‘HAVE YOU GONE MAD?’ Ron bellowed. 'ARE YOU A WITCH OR NOT?’

"Always use the proper name for things. Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself."

"It really is like going to bed after a very, very long day. After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure."
"As much money and life as you could want! The two things most human beings would choose above all — the trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things that are worst for them."

‘There are all kinds of courage,' said Dumbledore, smiling. ‘It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr Neville Longbottom.’

It sounds like fortune- telling to me, and Professor McGonagall says that's a very imprecise branch of magic.'

"Your mother died to save you. If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love. He didn't realize that love as powerful as your mother's for you leaves its own mark. Not a scar, no visible sign... to have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever. It is in your very skin. Quirrell, full of hatred, greed, and ambition, sharing his soul with Voldemort, could not touch you for this reason. It was agony to touch a person marked by something so good.”
ok bars????

"Call him Voldemort, Harry. Always use the proper name for things. Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself."

Dumbledore smiled at the look of amazement on Harry's face. "To one as young as you, I'm sure it seems incredible, but to Nicolas and Perenelle, it really is like going to bed after a very, very long day. After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.”

There is no good and evil, there is only power, and those too weak to seek it....

It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.
Dumbledore you dawg

"Aha," he said vaguely, "we've won."
And he fainted.

"Training for the ballet, Potter?" yelled Malfoy, as Harry was forced to do a stupid kind of twirl in mid-air to dodge the Bludger.

'Ah, go boil yet heads, both of yeh,' said Hagrid. 'Harry— yer a wizard.'

That's what I said, but Dumbledore thinks that - what was it?-"to the well-organised mind, death is but the next great adventure":

‘The truth.’ Dumbledore sighed. ‘It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution.’

"Tu so, als ob du dir das Bein gebrochen hättest", schlug Hermine vor. "Brich dir das Bein wirklich", sagte Ron
