I think when you're the worst of people, finding the worst in others becomes a survival tactic of sorts. You focus heavily on the darkness in people in the hopes of masking the true shade of your darkness.

For her sake, that's the version of her I'm going to choose to miss. The person she never had the chance to be. 

I kiss my fingers and then press them against the picture as I walk past it and into the bathroom. 

I run my index finger under my eyes. I'm emotional for a lot of reasons, but mostly because I feel like I have to truly release myself of Samson in this moment or he'll weigh me down for the next several years of my life. I don't want that. And neither does he. 

This book is tearing my heart out. 😭😭

Samson was the first place I felt I belonged and that was ripped form me. 

I know what love is, because I spent my whole life knowing what it isn't.

"I had nothing to do with your accomplishments. I had nothing to do with who you turned out to be. Please don't make me be the reason you give it all up." 

I'd much rather fall for a guy who has a shady past and treats me as well as Samson does than fall for a guy who treats me like shit while looking good to the rest of the world. 

Maybe we did grow heart bones. But what if the only way of knowing you grew a heart bone is by feeling the agony caused by the break? 

"Don't worry. Hearts don't have bones. They can't actually break." 

"If there's nothing inside a heart that can break, why does it feel like mine is going to snap in half when it's time for me to move next month? Does you heart not feel like that?" 

"Yeah," he whispers. "It does. Maybe we both grew heart bones." 

"I told you I loved it the night I got it. I just didn't say it with words." 

You can't really dislike a book you haven't read yet. 

"When you're being judged based on the person who raised you, you can't be neutral about who you are. You either let it consume you and you become who others think you are, or you fight it with everything in you." 

I feel like a flower being taken out of the shadows and put into the sun. I'm blooming for the first time since I broke through the earth's soil. 

"There are two different kinds of wrong. The wrong that stems from weakness and the wrong that stems from strength. You made that choice because you were strong and needed to survive. You didn't make that choice because you were weak." 

"People sometimes still drown in the shallow end," 

"I've been slapped by a girl and punched by two guys since you showed up." 

Samson looks at me with a small grin, almost as if he's saying, "That's not gonna happen." 

"Love you too, but I have a sister now, so you have to share me."

I don't even care what he's thinking when he stares. I just like that he finds me intriguing enough to stare at, even if his thoughts aren't entirely positive. It means he sees me. I'm not used to being seen. 

Not my favorite, I like the  character growth but I’m finding that Colleen Hoovers books are more YA. This one is a little boring, they only briefly talked about her struggles in the beginning but not enough I think it should’ve been dragged on a little more. I appreciate the plot twist with Samson and his better ending was my favorite thing but overall I think this book is more of a light read. I’ve found that other books have more emotional depth

           Esse foi um romance um pouco diferente do que estou acostumada. Beyah me conquistou desde o primeiro capítulo, a sua força e garra me emocionou e me fez torcer muito pela felicidade dela desde o começo. Samson não me cativou totalmente como personagem, apesar de eu ter gostado muito dele, mas acho que o objetivo da autora não era esse. A história foi sobre Beyah e ninguém mais, por isso o casal não fez tanta diferença pra mim. Acho que a minha coisa preferida nesse livro é sua amizade com Sara (e foi exatamente o motivo de eu ter começado a ler o livro, vi uma pessoa falando sobre as duas em uma resenha). São muitas as histórias de garotas julgando umas as outras por diversos motivos e por isso foi um alívio tremendo ler sobre uma amizade sincera e saudável. Gostaria de mais desenvolvimento da relação de Beyah com o pai, mas acho que o livro teria que ser muito maior para isso acontecer. 
O desenvolvimento de Beyah para se tornar quem se tornou foi muito bem escrito. Acredito que a grande reflexão do livro seja sobre como nós mudamos quem somos dependendo do ambiente em que estamos, e isso é uma verdade muito grande pra mim. 
A revelação de Samson foi surpreende de um jeito estranho, não fez muito sentido pra mim. Após aquilo acontecer e ele ser preso eu achei que teria que dar 3 estrelas ou menos pro livro, já que Beyah aparentemente ia largar a faculdade para dar um jeito de tirar ele da cadeia. Fico feliz que a autora tenha tomado outro caminho. Até mesmo no final, quando ela vai encontrar Samson novamente ela diz que mesmo se ele não quiser mais nada com ela, ela está bem e feliz. Isso foi uma das melhores coisas que Colleen podia ter feito pela personagem. E foi isso que subiu minha nota para 4 estrelas.

update 25/06: mudando para 3 estrelas. não lembro quase nada da história e quando lembro da leitura não me traz um sentimento muito memorável. não acho que mereça 4 estrelas apesar de ser um livro legal.

I wasn’t sure about this book at first, however as I continued to read it, I absolutely fell in love. Heart Bones explores the relationship between two young adults who have both dealt with hardships in life. It is a story that shows how you shouldn’t judge anyone for their past. It’s beautiful and emotional and everything a book should be.

I think this was a pretty good book. It actually got me into reading. I just wasn't a huge fan of the MC, Beyah. This contains spoilers, so you might not wanna read this part- I think it's a little weird how she defended him after she found out he was a criminal.

Both of the main characters in this one are so broken, and throughout the course of this book they start to heal. This story is heavy and heart-breaking at times, but it's also beautiful. Beyah is such an incredibly strong character. She's loyal and determined. This Book is hard yet beautiful at the same time Heart Bones is a story with an incredible prose, interesting characters with secrets you won't guess, and a truly stunning love story when it comes down to it.

This book made me feel so much, in both good and bad ways. I cried but that was honestly expected, I mean come on, it IS a Colleen Hoover book. It made me so happy and sad at the same time. I'll be thinking about this book for a long time. I loved it so much and learned so much from it. This is most definitely a favorite 🤍.

this book had no business being this good!!! i swear there was not 1 moment where i was bored while reading. but the ending was very bitter-sweet in my opinion and had me literally sobbing

Honestly might have been a 5 star if Colleen didn’t refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the ocean. Also I feel like Galveston/ Crystal beach was not depicted as well as it should have been. But I did cry and I do love every single character

What a wonderful, heartfelt story. Beyah has had a rough childhood dealing with an addict, absent mom. She has had to get creative raising herself, figuring out where her next meal will come from all while trying her best to get out of her drug ridden community. Overnight her world is turned upside down and she is thrown into one of money, plenty of food and a family trying to love her. The only one she feels accepts her is Samson. Just as that relationship is in full bloom, her life is turned upside down again, in one night. A must read!

The concept of heart bones in general won me over. A beautiful story of loyalty and the choice to love despite some very difficult circumstances.

This book broke me. 3/4s of the book was amazing really. You truly do fall in love with the characters and it was so well written. However I felt that the end of the book was rushed and really didn’t make much sense. The writing did not fit the rest of the book which is why I give it 4 stars.
