I did not particularly like this book. I probably will still read the next few books in the series.
Here's the thing, I did not find Emma particularly likeable. She's not very good at her job. She's neither canny, nor is she assertive. If I recall, she should have been working with a partner. It's unfortunate what happened to her original partner but I truly believe she could benefit from working alongside somebody with experience. 
She's not strong. She is not a leader. Yeah she is somehow able to have power over the alphas in the vampires?? I do not get it. The only thing she is good at is dying. That is all she does over and over and over again. How can someone not step in and demote her? She runs into situations and gets herself killed! And then they think it's okay to put her right back in the situation she was in before!!! Any sane leader would tell her to debrief someone who is better and let that someone else deal with the situation. Emma is not the one.
She does not have any friends. Maybe that's what she needs. It is weird reading a book where a character does not have friends. I don't like the potential romance. I don't think it should be dragged out. Either it should happen or it shouldn't. 
Anyway, check the book out and see if you agree. The audiobook is great.
