Hold Me Closer, Necromancer

Lish McBride2010
Sam leads a pretty normal life. He may not have the most exciting job in the world, but he's doing all right—until a fast food prank brings him to the attention of Douglas, a creepy guy with an intense violent streak. Turns out Douglas is a necromancer who raises the dead for cash and sees potential in Sam. Then Sam discovers he's a necromancer too, but with strangely latent powers. And his worst nightmare wants to join forces . . . or else. With only a week to figure things out, Sam needs all the help he can get. Luckily he lives in Seattle, which has nearly as many paranormal types as it does coffee places. But even with newfound friends, will Sam be able to save his skin? Hold Me Closer, Necromancer is a 2011 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

It was really fun! In many ways, this reminded me a lot of Percy Jackson, with a paranormal theme and geared towards teens / YA. I did think things got solved a bit quickly in the end, and it did have some pacing issues. But, I had a great time reading it, and I’m excited for the sequel. Easy read, would recommend!

For my Full Review: http://tylerrosereads.com/hold-me-clo... Teen tropes were as prevalent as all the pop culture references in this book. I found myself wanting to stick in a secondary characters POV chapters more than main character Sam's. But this book servers the purpose of an easy brain-break read.

This was a really funny, great YA Paranormal. I loved the story, the characters, and I honestly read it in a day because it was so good. This book had great humor and was just a really great story. To read a full review visit Dark Faerie Tales: http://darkfaerietales.com/review-hol...

"What would you like?" Brid asked, head tilted to the side. "Waffles," Ashley said promptly. "What?" Whatever I'd been expecting, it hadn't been that.
