The Girl with Golden Eyes

The Girl with Golden Eyes

After Ferragus and The Duchess of Langeais, La Fille aux yeux d'or closed in 1834 the trilogy of the History of the Thirteen, where Balzac invented a kind of community dedicated to the service of the devil.Nestled in the heart of Paris, the mansion house of the San-Réal is an eastern enclave that shelters the saphic loves of the Marquise de San-Réal, a kind of "Othello female" and Paquita, the Girl with golden eyes. But the young girl is also coveted by Henri de Marsay, a young Parisian dandy who is crazy about it. The boudoir with its intoxicating atmosphere where Henri meets Paquita becomes the setting for a terrible crime. As a perfect storyteller, Balzac supports to its end the rhythm and intensity of a cruel story, in which the wounds of love - or rather self-love? - are blindly repaired in the blood.
