House of Furies
Reviews

Such a good modern gothic trilogy!! The main character is amazing and the devil is indeed charming.
READ IT OR YOU'LL FACE CONSEQUENCES.

It took all my energy just to finish this book. I loved the concept of the book but I couldn't connect to any of the characters. I will try to give Roux other series a try and maybe I wasn't really in the mood for this book.

my review is - i enjoyed reading it, but it would probably be so once.

This book was interesting, to say the least. I think the reason this book is rated at 3 stars is that I was intrigued by the lore in the story. You got to learn about different supernatural creatures and how they worked in this House. However, my biggest gripe with this book was the lack of horror. There was one scene that I thought was a good horror scene but the rest fell flat for me. I will say this is very similar to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and if you liked that book, you may enjoy this one. I will say I wasn't the biggest fan of either so 🤷♀️ Overall, 3 stars and I'm not sure if I will continue with the series or not.

I surprising really liked this book.. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it only because I've read a lot of ya lately and for most of them I just felt kind of Blah.. But this one I sat down and read in one sitting. I do agree that it was a slower paced book, but that didn't make any difference in how much I like it. Louisa ends up a Coldthistle house. A place ran by Mr. Morningside, where people that are evil are drawn to.. Once they arrive they are killed, by the others that live in the house. After touching something she wasn't supposed to, Louisas eyes are opened to what Coldthistle house is. She has met a nice boy, whom she doesn't think is evil, so decideds to stay on and see if she can prove it to Mr. Morningside.. Well things end up going sideways and she is faced with making a bargain with the devil, and while he can't help her, someone else can... I really want to read the next book in the series..

I received this as an arc from my local bookstore I enjoyed this book. Dark and creepy are words I would use to describe it. It's not my usually go to book. I don't really enjoy the horror genre at all as a whole, however this book did intrigue me. Reading the first few chapters I just had to finish it. I feel like if I would've alenhoyed the genre more so it would have a higher raising. That being said I do recommend this book. It took me out of my comfort zone and I liked it!

Rating: 2/5 Genre: YA Fantasy/Horror Recommended Age: 15+ (gore, murder, violence, nightmares) After escaping a harsh school where punishment was the lesson of the day, seventeen-year-old Louisa Ditton is thrilled to find employment as a maid at a boarding house. But soon after her arrival at Coldthistle House, Louisa begins to realize that the house’s mysterious owner, Mr. Morningside, is providing much more than lodging for his guests. Louisa begins to fear for a young man named Lee who is not like the other guests. He is charismatic and kind, and Louisa knows that it may be up to her to save him from an untimely judgment. But in this house of distortions and lies, how can Louisa be sure whom to trust? Featuring stunning interior illustrations from artist Iris Compiet, plus photo-collages that bring Coldthistle House to chilling life, House of Furies invites readers to a world where the line between monsters and men is ghostly thin. - Amazon.com I was reading this book in the car and when I would take a nap or two I would legit have nightmares. So this book was the perfect choice of my October TBR! It was so gory and haunting that it would be an injustice to the book to read it in any other month. I thought the character development was fairly well done and the pacing was very well done as well. I liked that the character wasn’t handed the secret to what she was in the first few chapters and she and the reader were left to guess the secret until almost all the way through the novel. Unfortunately this is all that I really liked about the novel. I thought that the book was told in a very discombobulated manner. While the plot was very well done and it could have been a good book, I thought that the way it was told was not streamlined at all. It made it very hard to keep reading this book. I thought there was room for improvement on the characters backstories as well. We never do find out some of the more important details of the book and a lot of the magic of the book is not explained. I also had issue with the way the book was wrote. The mix of internal monologue and talking made it difficult to follow throughout the book and it made the book not very easy to read. Verdict: Would I read this book again? No I don’t think I will. In my opinion while it was very gorey and Halloween appropriate, it reminded me more of a B-rated horror film. However, you might feel different! If you do or read this book later on and love it please tell me in the comments below! I’d love to hear someone who thought this book was good!

A well written suspenseful horror story. Not at all predictable and very hard to put down. I’m glad the next book is already out because I need to know what happens next.

This book was fun and had way more creep/gore factor than I was expecting. Which obviously meant I loved it. I loved the different characters that appeared in this book - from their diversity, to their mysterious backgrounds, to all the paranormal. While the book was still a little slow-paced, and even a tiny bit anti-climatic, for me (particularly because of the audio format) I think this book has set the series up well and I'm hoping the next book brings more to the table. Definitely keeping my eyes peeled for Court of Shadows.

I'm still kinda confused and I feel like i read this in a fever dream but I really enjoyed it..?

At first I wasn't sure what to think of this book but as I started reading it I fell in love with it. It is the right balance of creepy and addicting. It isna gothic horror book about a young lady who gets a job as a maid. The house is not an normal house though, its master is not someone you want to mess with. Overall it was a well written book and I cannot wait for the sequel!

TW: Blood. Gore in some scenes. 4.5 stars. Wasn’t sure if I would love this book. But ended up really really enjoy it. House of Furies, I wouldn’t say it’s a creepy book that just creepy. Because while yes you are introduced to some dark magic, dark creature or dark story elements, and I mean the whole atmosphere the story is dark & gloomy, however this book is more than that. It’s a very interesting story and journey that made me hard to put this book down. Madeleine Roux managed to create interesting characters that made the story feels dark and rich. It really is way better than I expected and it is SO GOOD! Highly recommended!
