Frozen to Death

It's a bleak midwinter in rural Lancashire, heavy snows have been forecast and everyone is ready to hunker down for a prolonged cold spell. In the sleepy village of Moulton Bank, Detective Inspector Steve Carmichael and his wife have been invited to a Valentine's Day dinner party given by local celebrity Caroline Lovelace. Neither she nor her bombastic MP husband has ever taken any notice of the DI before, so Carmichael is feeling a little flattered... Meanwhile, not so very far away, a solitary man has tied up his narrowboat and not far away from him, out on the towpath, a frozen corpse is slowly buried in the snow...
